when you add two to a zero it gives you a result of 2.
when you multiply two by zero it gives you a result of zero...why?
think deeper....

ITS NOTHING TO THINK DEEPER, ITS ELEMENTARY MATHEMATICS. IT IS A PROVE THAT ANY NUMBER TO ZERO IS ZERO. WANT THE PROOF, THEN SEE THIS, YOU'LL END UP WITH HEADACHE FOR SURE

You know there are 8 axioms in mathematics which we cannot prove,

1) if 'a' and 'b' are integers then 'a+b' is an integer and 'a.b' is an integer (Closure law)
2) a + b = b + a and a..b = b.a (cumulative law)
3) a + (b + c) = (a + b) + c (Associative law)
4) a (b + c) = a.b + a.c (Distributive law)
5) a + 0 = a = 0 + a (Additive Identity)
6) a.1 = a = 1.a (Multiplicitive Identity)
7) for all integer 'a' there is a unique integer (-a) such that a + (-a) = 0
8) I can't remember...

So we can prove your requirement using above axioms

0 + 0 = 0 (Obivious)
a ( 0 + 0 ) = a.0 (Multiplying by same factor)
a.0 + a.0 = a.0 (Distributive over addition)
a is an integer and 0 is an integer so a.0 is an integer, hence there exits a unique -(a.0) such that -(a.0) + a.0 = 0

so adding -(a.0) both sides

-(a.0) + (a.0 + a.0) = -(a.0) + (a.0)
(-(a.0) + a.0 )+ a.0 = 0 (associative law)
0 + a.0 = 0
a.0 = 0 (additive identity)

ARE YOU HAPPY NOW???

I've generally done extremely well with math, but have little tolerance for trick questions of this sort.

Multiplication and addition are really the same thing.

E.g.: 2*5 = 2+2+2+2+2 = 5+5 = 10.

So for 2*0, 0+0 = 0. That's the only way it can be done - can't write 2 0 times.

Yet it is clear that 0+2 = 2.

So that is the difference - one is 0+0 and the other is 0+2.

There is no such thing as multiplication if you choose for there not to be - it is simply another form of addition - and in this case you are adding different numbers to yield a different result. That seems to be the deep thought you were hoping to find.

simple,
2 + 0 = 2
2 x [0] = 0
Why ? You have a quantity of two multiplying the [set] value zero.
So 2 x 1 would be a quantity of 2 multiplying by the set value (multiplier) 1 to describe having 2 of something. i.e., you have 1 set of 2. And of course, no sets of 2 is 0.

You´re adding two differente numbers: 2 and 0.
When you multiply 2 times 0, you´re saying that you´re adding the number zero two times. And we all agree that 0+0 is nothing. If you have 0 apples and I give you 0 apples, you get NO apple.
See, easy!!

when we multiply 2 into 3 we add 2 three times into itself. this is the same reason. when we for example, multiply m into zero we add m+m+m.... and so on. now we know that we are adding zero m's and the sum thus is zero.

You multiply anything with zero the reply will be zero. Why pin point 2?

2006-06-20 19:48:58 · answer #7 · answered by Bolan 6 · 0 0

...coz you are addin' 2 to 0 and you get 2.
but in multiplication, what is actually the process of repeating the number 'n' times and then addin' the whole lot. here you multiply two by zero, what means you are repeatin' 2 zero times so you get zero. In other words you are repeatin' 0 two times and adding them which also gives you zero.

Because regardless of what number that times 0 the answer is still zero

I don't see this question very hard since this represents the basic intution of what is zero. But thank you for the 2 points. I am already in the level 2. Aka without cheating

if you add 2 to a zero you'll get 2 because that's 2 more than the original zero.
if you have 2 zero's you are still stuck with zero. because zero and a zero is nothing, nothing with nothing, and that is still nothing, zero.
