What are his favorite songs, If he likes rock and roll, jazz, blues, whatever he likes best. Or something that means something to the both of you. Is there a song that he may have sang to you when you were little. Or a song that means something to your father and mother.
A friend of mine passed away about two years ago. His wife played a song from Faith Hill. I can't remember it,(my daughter can), but it was beautiful and made me cry. Something to do with husbands and wives.
If you have other siblings, ask them also. Something special between them and your father. They don't always have to be sad songs. They can be happy. You are there also to praise his life, not just his death. Make it so it is a happy time, and something you can all look back on. Whatever songs that mean the most to you all.
Your father if he is agreeable to this, might tell you himself what he would like, also your mother. Not everyone wants to talk about thier own death, and furneral, and doing somethin about it now is a good idea. Because when the time comes, you are right, you will be overwhelmed with question from everyone.
Good luck with this, and hope your father lives for a very long time.

I selected "God be with you till we meet again" at my dad's funeral. "Amazing Grace" would be nice too. If you're not religious, how about an old song "O, my Papa"?
Otherwise, depending on how close you are to your father, find something that has a special meaning between the two of you, which would bring back fond memories.
I wish your father well and, for you, I hope you will spend a lot of time with him and show him you love him. It's now that matters so that you won't regret you haven't done enough when you sing your song at his funeral.
Best wishes.

I seriously recommend the hauntingly beautiful music of a bagpipe. Any professional piper will have a number of songs appropriate for any phase of the funeral. If your father is a veteran, it is possible to request a piper from the nearest military unit. A most popular song therefor is "Amazing Grace," though there are many wonderful and recognizable songs and hymns.

I sing for funerals and the most requested songs I have had are
1. It Is Well Well With My Soul. It's an old hymn, but Sandi Patti does a nice rendition.
2. Friends are Friends Forever by Michael W. Smith. I know you are his child, but this song is good for anyone that knew and loved your dad.

1) You are 17, why are you thinking about this? Isn't the bigger issue the fact that you would be dead? 2) If for someone reason you are obsessing about it, write a letter saying "In the event of my death I would like...." and put it in an envelope marked "In the event of my death" 3) Stop thinking about dying, you are 17, get on with living! There's lots to do. Why not learn a musical instrument yourself it's never too late to start. Join clubs, have fun.

Here's a song to consider, if you wish. You could have a little child who is willing, to sing it. It's called, "How Far Is Heaven?" I remember some of the words & it goes like this>>>
A little girl was crying for her daddy one day.
She knew it was time to greet him, when she heard her mommy say...
"Come to Mommy, Darling. Please, do not cry.
Daddy's gone to Heaven, way up In the sky."
How far is Heaven? When can I go, to see my Daddy? He's there, I know.
How far is Heaven? Let's go tonight. I want my Daddy to hold me tight.
(song possibly found thru Christian book stores or ordered at music stores)

I suppose that Aerosmith's Janie's Got a Gun would be way out of line.
How about Cat's in the Cradle by Harry Chapin?

well, I would find out his favorite songs, and play one that is appropriate, and if you want one in honor of being a father, my suggestion is Daddy's Hands... It's a great song, and would be appropriate for that occasion.. just make sure what you pick is in good taste and has meaning to him or close family members
