Of all the classical I've heard (and that's a lot) very little of it is relaxing. Even the pieces with soothing melodies are to complex to be very relaxing.

I'm not sure. Relaxing isn't the word... for me it is inspiring and some of my deepest emotions come out during it. I usually listen to rock/ metal type stuff but when I listen to some classical it's just so wonderful. It seems to have more meaning and feeling to me, but can get boring if you aren't too big on expressing your feelings or if you don't want to pay attention.

People probably think it's relaxing because they think it's boring or it doesn't have lyrics.

The answer is in it's complexity of frequencies. Strings always do relax people and can cause their deepest feelings come to the surface. The calmness of the rhythm is very important.

That's a really good question. Those "Mozart for relaxation" CDs have always made me laugh, Mozart always gets me antsy.

don't know, some of it is very inspiring...1812 overture is anything but relaxing..
