I've always been a fairly eloquent writer of the English language. However, whenever I visit this Yahoo Answers, I can actually feel my literary abilities slipping away. I blame this on the quality of what I'm reading...It's kinda like when one moves to a different region of the country and adopts the local accent. Anybody else have this problem? And do you think...these people...are really that bad at writing, or is it just an online thing?

I agree. I can't stand it when people don't punctuate correctly, spell correctly, etc. It isn't that difficult, but I thing people think it's cool. I find it infuriating...

Spelling problimes, too.

I think it has to do with people typing fast and not bothering to correct typos. I personally have issues with using bad grammar, so I do my best. I also plan on being an English major, so it would probably be dumb to start using poor English just because I'm online.

There are, however, a lot of people out there who can't spell and who don't have good grammar. Too bad for them...

I think it's the online thing!
Surely they can't spell and type that bad. I know there are a lot of kids on here. Maybe that is the problem.
I find myself doing the same. I'm southern tho could be some of my problem. Plus for some unknown reason I can't spell when I'm here.
lol

It's just an on-line thing. It's feels good to slack off sometimes, you know.

Well, I'm guessing that the new sms and internet lingo has a lot to do with it.
