Protien is found in lots of things. There is some doubt if it's possible to get enough calories and not get enough protien at least in the developed world.
Cook in cast iron, it will help protect you from iron trouble. I felt better and my hair got less oily (minor thing but good) The kitchen was at least ten times easier to clean with less grease. Laurel's kitchen is a great book on the lifestyle and bread and everything.
Beans, pasta, flours, nuts and seeds can all be bought once a month. Veggies can come from a garden or freezer. I had lots of freed up shopping time when I didn't buy any meat.

You will have a decrease of protein in your body. Depending on what you eat. If you substitute the meat with beans, other bean products, or anything with high protein , it will not have any effects. If you don't substitute with high protein, will will lose the ability to built muscles, hair, antibodies, nails, and everything protein is needed. You will eventually feel that you are weak.
I suggest you get look in to soy product such as tofu or soy milk when you become a vegetarian. You should take some protein pills if you really don;t want to eat any meat or beans.

Answers so far can be summarised in one sentence. You will develop so many nutritional deficiencies.
First read that everything essential you will get if you switch to raw food step-by-step. In order to stop craving, you must go only step-by-step. all help and why you should go raw is explained in the source given below. Secondly, note argument offered about proteins by others and at source given here. Then decide for yourself. The great mathematician Pythagoras was a vegetarian. And many others. If you are seeking 100% health and bliss, try second source given here and search Iron rules of health articles.

Being a vegetarian does NOT mean you are going to be healthier. Meat and eggs contain iron and protein, two things that your body needs! If you plan to quit eating meat, you need to take vitamins! You can lose energy, have mood swings and possibly become sick if you stop consuming foods, in which your body is use to having. Being low on iron can make you anemic, that is not good!

A work colleague of mine was alergic to meat and tried to work the same as I was (which was hard physical work) He could never get enough protiens to compensate for the lack of meat products. He became very sick and could not work. This is not the norm but it is worth considering if you have a choice. Look for protien substitutes which can be bought at health shops. You do not say your age but milk or steak or eggs is a good source of calcium for your bones and muscles. giving up these things could cause problems with bones and healing

you risk anemia unless you carefully plan and regulate your diet... I was a vegetarian for 9 years and then became so sick i had to start eating meat again...I'm slowly coming off meat again (after about 5 years or more) and now prefer fish and white meat (mostly bird) although I will eat a sausage now and then....unless you have a lot of knowledge and time I would not advice becoming a strict vegetarian. it takes a lot of time and planning (plus supplementary diet/vitamin pills) to prepare vegetarian meals to avoid deficiencies and you should carefully consider if it is a good idea!!! Good luck and enjoy all the beans!!

when i did this after about 8 weeks or so, my sense of smell and taste changed. i also swore that my body order was different to. i don't mean to sound gross, but with not having animal products and all the hormos and chemicals and preservatives it changed.
i wish you good luck and good eating! and don't listen to your friends or your family when they say "we can't go out to eat anymore because your on a special diet" you will be really surprised how many options are out there nowadays for Vegans.

I suggest you read books on general nutrition and not books on being a vegitarian. Your body needs a source of animal protien just as it needs vegitable protien. You should also consider Tahitian Noni Juice, www. tni.com/mmcmullen
