burnt rubber smell?

my dumbells are already two weeks old, and i'm quite annoyed with it, because it has a burning rubber smell in it, i tried to soak it with water and detergent just to remove the smell and even lysol, but the smell still there, any advise..thanks

Wash it with vinegar and water, Try putting it in a paper bag with newspaper and charcoal briquettes
