I know that england, wales, scotland and northern ireland are all seperate soveirgn nations, but it is the UNITED kingdom.... why not have a UNITED football team instead of the four seperate teams.

I am a yank, this might be a stupid question, but i want to know.

Also, would a UK team be better for england, or would the team consist almost entirely of English players anyway (i.e. basicly the same team as england has now).

Just wanted to point out in response to Milo . . . there's big difference between the ideas of the UK countries, which do have a formal political relationship and unity, sharing a football team, and the idea of African nations which have no such relationship sharing one.

I don't know the answer to the question (aside from what I'm sure is intense rivalry among the UK countries) but I think Africa is a bad comparison.

England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland all have individuval representation at FIFA. Those countries allow the nations to have 4 votes.

England
Wales
Scotland
Northern Ireland
Republic of Ireland
Devolution
Different Countries
Blah Blah Blah
Also,it would be the England team plus Ryan Giggs.

first of all, they are not a separate sovereign nations, but separate Parliament with some solid powers. They have almost the same power structure as in any one of your 51 states, most power represent in the House of Parliament.
Though they represents as United Kingdom, they hate each other guts like hell, especially others hate England with deep passion.
And as the registered member of FIFA as separate country, they rather choose to stand on their own than united.

I dont know why, ive heard they want to to the same in but in Central America. They want to do a Central American team because all the countries are small (el salvador, honduras, guatemala, costa rica, and nicaragua) and putting them together can get a better team

Africa has lots of teams also. I don't think any of them would give in as a subordinate to the other. Also, I think it makes more sense in terms of its economic advantages especially when they are localized and more fans will be attached to their team rather than be a minority of the UK Football team.
