If the same specified voltage is applied, the coil will work with D.C.
The r.m.s voltage of a.c is defined as that voltage when applied will give the same heating power as a d.c.voltage.

several things can happen depending on the rating of the coil and what means od dc power you use.you could burn up the power supply or explode a battery due to the supply trying to work so hard to supply the coil.You could burn up the coil from the difference in the amp ratings of the coil.The coil will more than likely not heat up or will not heat to the full potential due to the different voltage being applied and if the coil has a contactor rated for ac and dc is applied,it will not be strong enough to pull in the contactor.
If the coil is rated for ac voltage then I recommend using ac voltage.If you have an ac voltage coil and you need to power it from dc voltage,then you need to get a coil and circuitry for dc power or purchase you a converter that will handle the wattage of the coil and convert your dc power over to ac.

It will work normally at the specified voltage. The heat is generated by the resistance shown by the nicrome coil. Whatever be the type of electric power (DC or AC) the same resistance will be shown the nicrome coil of the heater.
