Don't open stuff if you don't know the person!!! Just delete it. It's not worth ruining your computer and having to spend $100.'s to get it fixed. You can always just open a completely new Yahoo account and email address. It's not a big deal. Maybe set your email settings to not accept mail from anyone not on your list. You definitely need an anti virus program!!!! Many Internet providers offer them all on your Internet bill! You might check to see if your does. We all have to be smart on the Internet, don't believe everything, and you don't have to open everything. There are some crazy moral-less, hateful, evil, sick, bored, vile, perverted people out there!!!

Yes you can. Some types of viruses (usually called worms), if they infect a computer, will random begin looking for other computers around them by pinging IP addresses. If they manage to find your computer, they can possibly infect it with a virus without you having to do anything but have the computer turned on and able to access the Internet or a local network. It is also possible for a web page creator to design his page so that the simple act of opening the page will infect your computer. It can activate a vbscript or other type of program that pushes a download to your computer without your knowledge or your doing anything to accept it. Both of those types of attacks can by prevented with a good anti-virus program and a good (not the Windows) firewall. However, not downloading, not open attachments, and not file sharing will eliminate the major of virus problems.

Do you have an anti-virus program? You really need it if you're going to be opening up unknown e-mails. Your provider should be providing you with some kind of protection. It's too late after you open the attachment though. Usually the program will scan the attachment and let you know if it's infected or not before you open it. You can probably download one if you don't, someone here will probably give you some info on how.

the virus could be sending every key stroke you make or just all passwords and account information.
I'd get some type of virus protection. some isp's offer it free and there is norton and mcafee among others that you pay for.
I wouldn't do any on-line banking or purchase anything over the internet until your computer is secure. otherwise they could get yor bank info andcredit card info.

wow, you must be a child prodigy. To be only a few days old / know nothing about computers, but can figure out how to sign up for yahoo answers and type in the words to ask a question. You're gonna be rich one day if you use that talent right.

this is why I block any type of pop up and avoid any "CLICK HERE TO SEND YOU YOUR FREE IPOD" such things...here is where they get u....usually you provide ur email adress...send you watever they can...and eventually download an attachment that automatically searches your personal setting and grab wat ever information they need. This is how it happened. Just avoind any scandals...get your self a good pop up blocker...an antivirus scanner...and a spyware scanner...and none of this things will happen...
