I really enjoyed the straight forward and simple yet deep style this book was written in. Also, I liked that it was fairly short and not overly descriptive (I don't really enjoy books that pain-stakingly describe every aspect of the environment...). The different prespective and the fact that it provided a slight lesson into Igbo culture was also appreciated. Can anyone recommend other books that I might enjoy?

hmmm. . . Chinua Achebe (sp.) wrote other books. .. look for them. But, I would suggest that you invest in other authors such as Richard Wright ("Native Son," "Black Boy Lost"), Ralph Ellison ("Invisble Man"), Frantz Fanon ("White Face, Black Mask), etc.

I really enjoyed "The Old Man and the Sea" by Ernest Hemingway. It's about an old Cuban (I think) man and his fight with a fish, and against old age. Hemingway writes pretty simply (in fact that style is often named after his work) but it fits this subject.

I think you might like this.

(And afterward see the film with Spencer Tracy!)

Things Fall Apart was so sad, but one of the best books I've read this year. Had to read it for an AP class, along with "Nectar in a Sieve" by Kamala Markandaya. "Things Fall Apart" was my favorite between the two, but "Nectar in a Sieve" is very similar.
