NO!!!
it wont work for acne scars. Acne scars are already a form of hyperpigmentation (there is excess skin pigment whereever the acne is) and getting a tan would not only darken your skin, but the acne scars as well will darken.
Your best bet is to take it easy this summer and use Proactiv Solution Skin Lightening Lotion ... put that on the spots they'll go away soon enough!! =]

Are you talking about going to a tanning bed, or getting an airbrush tan? If you're talking about tanning beds.... NO, NO, NO. Sun exposure DARKENS hyper-pigmentation (post-acne marks) and scars, just like it will darken freckles. Think about it: if it's darkening the lighter areas of your skin, it'll darken the darker areas even more. Plus, it'll damage the skin and make the scar less likely to heal. An airbrush tan obviously doesn't give you UV exposure, so that'll just cover them up with pigment which will eventually fade out. Much safer.

While it took little less than two months for me to really see a difference, my acne, blackheads and whole lot of other skin problems I had such as eczema had completely cleared! It was totally amazing...
