That word has so many different connotations. I've lived all my life in a Mexican city where gringo is just the way you call, and anglo. Angloes call themselves gringos. I only learned a few years ago in some parts of Mexico it's considered an insult. I checked, and discovered that the word is an insult in some cities, and just a plain way to call angloes. I also learned in the USA it's the same way. At least in South Texas it's not an insult, people sometimes here get surprised when they meet an Anglo from elsewhere who gets upset with the word.

As far as I know here and Sotuh Texas, that's just a way to call Anglo people.

there is a new "gringo's" nearby, we've tried it and it is pretty good, i've had better mexican food at other places but this place is really nice, a little expensive and service could be better but i'd recommend it, i don't think they're making fun of white people, "gringo's" is just a catchy name, you noticed it and so will many others, that's good advertising

Been to gringo's a bunch, that's decent. I never thought it was funny. Just a little trashy as a name, but then the service & food aren't anything special & it's pretty inexpensive so it sort of seemed like it fit in my head.

i for my section does not eat at a eating place with such call. does not sound very appetizing. Who call's a eating place "l. a. Cucaracha"? this is basically undesirable PR; a enterprise basically waiting to fail. is this a clean eating place? Has it been there for an prolonged time in enterprise? If it has permit me comprehend, i'm involved to nicely known if the call impacts the enterprise of the eating place. :P

Haha, love the crack about border control's negligence. So true.

Gringo's is really good food. Comparable to Casa Ole. Cheap and delicious, and you get free ice cream cones.
