I'm planning on using my credit card for most purchases, but for smaller merchants,( who don't take credit- only cash) I was planning on bringing 500 Euros- Will this be enough?
My budget- ( not including the 500 mentioned above )is 1500 U.S dollars. Will this be enough for 5 weeks? My Apartment and local transport is paid for.

500 Euros should be plenty, but I wouldn't like carrying that much cash. Start with 200 Euros, and use an ATM when you need more. You get a good exchange rate with an ATM, without the exchange fee on that end. Your bank may charge a fee for using a foreign ATM.

Bring just a small amount of euros. Bring your checking account debit card instead of a regular credit card. It's accepted as a credit card. There are ATMs all over that will dispense euros on your debit card (don't use your credit card, it's considered a cash advance.)

depends on how much are gonna stay in germany/austria. 500 euros is not enough. for example i take 1200 euros with me for 25 days in finland. i don't pay for accomodation or much food. i'm staying at my boyfriend's house. so think again.

1,500 dollars will be more then enough. people in europe dont even make that much money in 3 or 4 months. so you will be okay with that much money. just dont throw away money on stupid little things. have fun
