At first, ladies wanted to be different, so they painted their nails... thus came the nail polish ... Later they got boared with the single color and wanted to have a different one... and wanted to get it removed... thus came nail polish remover.... so nail polish came first, remover followed .... :)

I'm thinking .. its the same logic.

Nail polish came first! After that some clever guy came up with the remover because everyone got tired of having to scratch it off with metal rulers.

Technically speaking it is the nail polish remover. It comes naturally from oranges and other citrus fruits (though it is most abundant in the orange peel).
