Well, for me I have always love animation. Anime has unique story plots(a little out there for some people) and most of the time have great animation; it also shows a different culture sometimes(which is kind of interesting to learn about). They are also extremely different from American cartoons, in that most cartoons in America are geared toward children, while most Anime is not. At least that's why I like Anime. Although I will admit, there are some Anime that do not make ANY sense to me.

Many kids watch anime even if their not supposed to. Anime is the most popular among teenagers so don't exclude kids. If anyone shouldn't watch anime is adults because if they don't understand it they dis it and say its lame and "kid's stuff" If thats true then "kids" have wayyyyyyyyyy more fun. I like anime because its a nice change from my usual life and sometimes it challenges me mentally to understand all hidden motives, concealed identities, faked deaths, underlying mysteries and hidden morals in a single anime series!

Personally, I don't like the voices. Whiny squeals!
I don't think Americans understand that it's intended audience is Japanese adults (not all anime). Often it's subject matter is more risque than standard American cartoons. If parents knew what the kids were watching...
Unfortunately, it's nearly impossible get my kids not to watch.

Basically the anime we normally refer to is japanese animation. Anime generally target at different group of people, from younger kids to adults.
When you are asking why adults like it, are you refering to all the anime? Or maybe your impression of anime is like pokemon/digimon etc?
There's a few types of anime targeting at different age group example,
Kids favourites: Pokemon, Digimon, Doraemon etc
General catergory: Naruto, Bleach, DNAngel, Conan, Kindaichi, My Neighbor Totoro, Inuyasha etc
Adult catergory: Elfen Lied, Gantz, and all the H-titles etc
If you are refering to the anime as the general category. Basically, anime is just another form of media to showcase the story. Just like how you can watch Harry Potter, Lord of the ring which consists of real human acting in it, the same plot can be showcase in animation form too.
Unlike those movie which required huge budget to create real-life-alike characters with a mixture of real humans. Animation purely just consists of animated characters, which sometimes can be much better since, you will seldom get complains such as "This actress is so fake, or this actor dun suit the role."
In anime, each character can be customised to suit into the role, and alot of frictional scene and characters can be bring to life. If there's a story about space, it will be quite impossible to do that in a film without a huge budget, and this can be easily done using anime.
As for the cute voices, huge breast, revealling clothes at times, I would say it's all part of the fan-service (additional benefits for the audience) and part of the japan culture. Japanese speaks that way! Yes.. their language consists of alot of high and low pitch to fully express their feelings and anime sometimes exaggerated it.
As for why adults like it... We are young at heart and mind. There's always a part of us that kinda remain as a child at times. And some anime are targeted purely for teenage and adults too.

Dunno. Japan tends to expand the horizons of their animation as a popular art form that appeals to all ages, including adults, which is very unlike the U.S. where animation is marketed towards kids.
I'm not a big fan of anime. But if you can get past most of the genre's hyped up and injected-with-crack antics, you can find a few shows that truly shines."Cowboy Bebop", a serious, low-key series, is one of my favorite shows out there for its visionary storytelling and genuine characters.

Because they have an interesting storyline. That is a big thing. Cartoons is just people playing pranks. Anime has a good story with memorable characters. And you have to watch a whole beginning episode to get it. I like it because it has humor, action, romance, drama, tragedy, and just about everything else.

Sometimes there is no reason for someone to like something. I enjoy anime myself. There are certain series that I like more than others and it varies from the story line to the animation itself. Music is also a factor for me. I like it because it is entertaining.
