what does douche mean? people often refer to it when talking about oral sex for women. im guessing its washing yourself down there but not exactly sure. they say its not good to douche?!

To douche is to squirt water/cleaning solution inside your vagina.
It is actually very bad for your vaginal health - it disturbs the natural Ph levels of the vagina which is a self cleaning organ. In the end it makes any problems of odour etc worse as it allows bacteria to breed.

I'm not sure of the exact origin of the word, but I know that it's French for "shower".
But a douche is a device that's used to cleanse a body cavity for hygienic or medical reasons. It can refer to any body cavity, but more than likely refers to the vaginal cavity.
Many women douche to rid themselves of smell, women who want to have sex during their period or and some use it as a form of birth control.
It's not recommended that you use a douche as the vagina is self cleaning and douching can interfere with the helpful bacterial cultures that exist in the vagina. Also, it can spread or even start infections. Using it as a form of birth control is a bad idea as it actually increases your chances of becoming pregnant by in effect, giving the sperm a ride.

Douche means a jet of liquid applied either externally or internally to the body. (Webster)
But, you have your sex education wrong, it is bad to douche after any type of sex. You run the risk of possibly pushing sperm farther into your body. Thus, possibly causing a pregnancy.
Even with protected sex, you shouldn't douche afterwards.

douche or douche bag was invented back in the 1950's. when you have sex with a man because there were no condoms a douche bag was used to clean the womens vagina of all excess fluids to stop pregnancy. but it was soon found to be impratical because u needed to do it many times a day to get even a slight chance of stopping pregnancy and it had to be done in the shower cauz it was gross.
