I've been looking at Dell, HP and Compaq computers, but I can't decide which to buy. I only need word processing, CD and DVD burning and Music, so what should I get?

Within the PC world, my experiences with Dell systems have been fantastic -- good value for the general user, and comparatively few problems (I've been a Dell user for the last 9 years).

I like HP the best(thats what I'm using right now and i love it).

Compaq is owned by HP, and Compaq's tend to be a little cheaper, but i had a Compaq before this machine, and i hated i.
( Maybe it's because it had Windows ME. Oh well.)

Other people like Dell, but i don't. I know alot of people who have been happy with Dell's, but i dont know the quality of Dell computers so i guess i can't say anything. They are much cheaper though.

Dell XPS or Alienware. The only reason I said this, is I prefer to build. The XPS an Alienware lines have more replaceable parts than the normal main stream off the shelf computers.

All the previous answers are good, you can also go to local computer store and they will put one together for you with what you want, just make sure they do not over charge, check your Sunday Newspaper for deals, especially with 4th of July coming up.

typically, all of them can do the job...my pick would have to be Dell..due to their customer services and warranties...if is only for personal use, Dell would do the job..

Pick the cheapest one with a monitor... the lowest end processor out today will handle what you need to do.
