1. then isn't karma like religion-you do good you will be rewarded(heaven) and do bad you get punished (hell). 2. Can we have both-someone does good all the time(believing in karma) then they get hit by a bus!(fate) What's up with that?

Karma is based on the principles of cause and effect. The belief is that one has to continually pay for one's wrongdoings through suffering until the debt for those wrongdoings are paid. According to this belief system, the individual may even have to pay over lifetimes for debts that cannot be consciously remembered from one lifetime to another. Of course, the belief in reincarnation has to be held in order to support this thinking.

Fate is a belief in a predetermined destiny that is inexplicably and inescapably yours. There is nothing you can do but to accept your fate in life. This fate is determined by a higher power or higher authority (most would say God) that has planned everything out for everyone.

I do not believe in either of these ideas. I support the idea that we each determine our own destiny by recognizing what our individual beliefs are about any circumstance, condition, experience or aspect of our life. When we understand how we create our own destiny by our own conscious thinking, we free ourselves to experience what we choose, when we choose to, in the exact way that we choose. There is nothing to limit, bind or punish us except for beliefs in limited ideas or the belief in a power outside of ourselves, which capriciously blesses or curses us for a host of unknown reasons. I do believe in Cause and Effect to the extent that we (by our own thinking and beliefs) are Cause (the Creative Power) back of every Effect (condition, circumstance, or experience) in our lives.

Karma is the belief that you will be punished or rewarded for the things you do. For example, if you help an old lady across the street and then get the job you wanted, some would call it karma. Fate is the belief that our destiny's and future's are already decided, that there is nothing you can do to change things, it's fate and already decided. I don't know if I believe in fate. I think I believe in karma, but I'm not entirely sure.

Fate is what has already been determined. Karma is how you lived your life, and how it can comeback on you, good or bad. And I believe in Karma, because I believe in free will, and if there is free will this means you can do whatever you want, which removes fate from the equation. On top of that I see plenty of people get what is coming to them, good and/or bad, so Karma seems to work out.

They are essentially the same thing. The bottom line is responsibility. There are consequences to our actions, good or bad, depending on the energy we put out.
Our fate can be determined by our negative actions, if we take responsibility for our actions, we can make a decision to change our fate by changing our actions. The same will hold true for Karma.

fate is like the phrase "god has a plan for you" and basically says that you have a purpose in life.

karma is pretty much saying "what goes around, comes around". if you're an *** to someone, you'll get punished for it, and if you're nice to someone, good things will happen to you.

i do think that i'm here for a reason, it would be sorta depressing to think that all i've done in life so far is pretty much worthless and that i'm living a pointless life.

and i do think that if i'm mean to people or do bad things like stealing or lying then i'll get the punishment in some form that i deserve for doing those. i have a hard time believing that the things we do, good or bad, won't have equal repercussions in the end.

I believe in karma. Karma is the universal law of cause and effect. An example of karma is if you strike a match, the effect is the flame and the cause is your action of striking the match.
According to the law of karma, you are in control because you can choose your own actions. If you behave nobly you will have a positive result. If you behave badly you will have a negative result.
Fate is kind of a more helpless attitude. I don't know if I believe in it.

karma is more the "what goes around comes around" idea. that theres some sort of cosmic balance that will repay you for how you act. its my understanding that the idea of fate is that no matter what you do with your life, your outcome is already decided.

and there have been times in my life where it seemed like no matter what i did or did not do, the outcome was still gonna be the same, like it was just what was supposed to be. and the idea of karma, well... from a scientific standpoint, we know that matter and energy are never destroyed, just changed from one to the other, and that all actions have an equal but opposite reaction. so, the idea that what goes around comes around kinda makes sense to me.

Fate is, well, fated. You can not change or affect it.

However, you can effect your Karma by being a better person.

ya...i believe.karma is linked with re-birth.In our first birth what are all the sin and gud things we have done are calculated and our re-birth is fixed(how we have to born, like dong or human or anyother creature)That calacuation result is karma follows us in our re-birth it may be gud.In that a son or daughter will share the sin done by there parent.According to that karma, the way of life we are going to lead is called fate.so always we have to do gud....
