There is a difference between "most famous" and "the best".

The best goalkeepers in the world, at this time, are considered Petr Cech (Czech Republic) and Gianluigi Buffon (Italy).

As for the most famous, there are several of them, in order:
Oliver Kahn (Germany)
Gianluigi Buffon (Italy)
Dida (Brasil)
Edwin Van der Sar(Netherlands)
Petr Cech (Czech Republic)
Santiago Canizares and Iker Casillas (Spain)
Fabien Barthez (France)

Can't spell it....but it has to be Schumakker....he is the only goal keeper in world cup history that intentionally almost decapitated an opposing player and sent them to the hospital in a coma for weeks!!! It was terrible...and he went out of his way to hit the player after receiving the ball. (At least he visited the player once before leaving the country)

Gianluigi "Gigi" Buffon (born January 28, 1978 in Carrara, Italy) is an Italian football player. He is a goalkeeper for Juventus and the Italian national team, and is generally regarded as one of, if not the best keeper in the world.

soccer_mind ; please just answer the friggen question and don't give us the whole history of soccer for every question you answer..don't think you know it all!! Buffon is the best and most famous..
