That is a very, very good question that I cannot answer. I am just on here to comment that I agree with you that it does not make much sense. Every time I go to church, either my own (Catholic) or with one of my friends (Baptist) or with my dad (full Gospel), when we talk about what's been going on lately with the war, etc, I find they are all Republicans and love Bush and hate the Muslim extremists. When I ask them what they think about protecting the environment and if they think that is more of a Democratic stance, they get defensive and say that God gave us the Earth to do whatever we wanted with and we are all doing just fine.
Also, I have a lot of Relatives who live out in the more rural areas just to the west of me and they are all Bush-loving Republicans who make fun of Muslims. I don't get it. They all deliberately found a place to live in the open country because they prefer it that way. They hunt, fish and camp. Yet, when I bring up protecting the environment, they also get defensive and say we are doing just fine the way we are and what I'm saying is a bunch of nonsense.
I don't get it. A lot of these people are religious and very patriotic, like my dad. And they all love to be outdoors and hunt and fish and camp. So, why is it that it seems like I am the only one I know among lots and lots of people who loves God and loves nature- created by him and vows to protect it in every way I can and completely agrees with Al Gore in his new movie "An Inconvenient Truth"?

Your question is based on a fallacy. It isn’t that “right-wingers” (I’m not one) are against a “better and cleaner environment” rather, it is that their approach to developing solutions to such challenges are very different from many on the left.
To some people they see some proposed solutions to improve the environment as working only by destroying the economy and thereby lowering the standard of living for the average person. There is a point of view in which evolving technology has the solutions to lessen the negative impact on the environment while advancing the standard of living through developing positive elements in the economy.
The challenge for both groups is to find common ground to find some way to work together. A better environment and a better economy is in everyone’s best interest. However, both sides have elements which will never work with the other perspective and that bodes ill for everyone because both result in extremists who are very unpredictable.
If one views the history of cultural polution in the Western countries, they will find that technology has improved the impact on both the environment and the economy since world war II. This is particularly true in the United States and Canada.

It doesn't make sense to me, either. They have kids, and should care about the world we leave to them.
I think it's a couple things. 1) They don't want to spend $ to clean up the air. They'd rather just leave it polluted and deny it's that way. Like the smoker, coughing and with emphysema who says I'll quit when it effects my health.
2)and they'll lose $ when the oil company stock goes down- 'cause we're heating out houses with solar panels.
They're more concerned with $, profit-then about the air that they breathe and the planet that they'll leave their children.

Because God gave them this planet to do what they want with and that includes trashing it. Then when Jesus comes back, he will take them all to heaven so they can leave the dump they created. I'm really starting to hope the Rapture is going to happen so we can be rid of all these ignorant *******, but the clean up is going to be something else!

Bigger issues to take care of. I love it when the left wing complains about all the money we are spending on whatever, and yet new movies that come out all the time are talking about all the money that is being spent at the box office! It is completely incredible!!! Look at that -- you can go to the movies, and any movie that you wish, and in the meantime we have issues going on!!! GOD BLESS AMERICA!

Because they expect industry to regulate itself (which it won't). And they oppose large government, unless it benefits business in some way.

ever see that movie "space balls" ? i seem to remember the evil "empire" having their own pre-canned air. lol. if you like goofy comedies (specifically a star wars parody), you'd like this one. its funny that a movie as old as that one has striking resemblance to our own political leaders.
