When you apply for unemployment the state will question you and the comapy on hy you were fired...a paper trail will ensue and based on all responses from your and the employer the state will make a judgement on whether you qualify for unemployment benefits...and yes it depends on which stae you live.

laws vary from state to state. in NJ, it depends if you were fired for misconduct, which would be a violation or rules or if you acted in a manner contrary to what the employer has a right to expect. filing is free so take your chances.
