So a cool trick to solve problems like these is to cancel units. You want to find out how many gallons it will take during you 800 mile trip so 800miles/13(miles/gallon) = gallons needed during the trip (61). the miles from each term canceled each other leaving only gallons. so it will take ~61 gallons at a cost of 3dollars/gallons=183dollars. Again you can see that the gallons units cancellec. If you can't see it they divided each other out. It is really helpful for these kind of things when you want to make sure your getting tht right awnser. At 20mpg it will cost $120

It would cost you $184.62 to drive 800 miles, using the pickup truck (800 miles divided by 13 mpg times $3.00/gallon). It would cost you $120.00 to drive 800 miles using the car (800 miles divided by 20 mpg times $3.00). If the 800 miles is one-way, then double the amount for a round trip.

Yes, just divide the trip length (800 miles) by the MPG and this will give the number of gallons required:
800/13 = 61.54 gallons
multiply this by the cost per gallon to get your expected cost.
61.54 x $300 = $184.6 or about $185
If you get 20 MPG instead of 13 then just reduce this value proportionally:
$185 x 13/20 = $120

for 13 mpg, it's $184.62 and for 20 mpg, it's $120. I'd go with a car that gets at least 30 mpg, because you'd only have to pay $80.

(800 miles) /(13miles/gal)* 3/gal = 184.62 cost of gas
if you use a car that got 20MPG, cost of gas is about 120 so you would spend 64.62 more if you use the pickup truck
