My friend was at her boyfriends house when he says she had a seizure. She has never before had a seizure. He said she fell to the floor with the seizure, he had to use CPR to resusitate her, she then threw up, and he put her to bed. When she woke up she had no recollection of what happened, she has a bump on her head, a gash on her lip, scrapes on her back, and a broken collar bone. This all happened on a carpeted hallway floor. Her boyfriend is sometimes abusive. I'm wondering if these are common side effects of having a seizure.

In my opinion, ALL of the injuries COULD have been caused by a seizure. Seizures, especially full-blown, grand mal seizures often do leave the person with no memory of the event. So could drugs and/or a good beating. As the ME aptly noted, the colar bone injury is a little disturbing, especially in light of the fact that the low-life boyfriend likes to beat on girls. The scratches, with the seizure having happened on a carpeted floor, are worrysome too. I'll avoid trashing the boyfriend too badly for the absolutely inappropriate use of CPR, which undoubtedly did more harm than good, as I have seen countless well-meaning, otherwise intelligent people use it inappropriately as well. No one has even mentioned the scariest, and to me, the most telling part of the story. He put her to bed? Not only could a first-time seizure be a sign of another serious, even life-threatening, illness or injury, not only did she just have "CPR" performed on her which could have caused a life-threatening injury, but she was less than fully conscious (she did not remember going to bed) and had just vomited! People can and do die from something as simple as vomiting - when they vomit while unconscious. This girl needs to:
1. See a doctor
2. Lose the loser boyfriend
3. Get some counceling so she won't choose a replacement loser.

Yes it is a common thing to not remember things from having a seizure. I don't ever remember what happened when I have one. The last thing I will remember is what I was doing and then next thing I will know when I come out of it is I am on the floor or where ever someone lays me. People who have seizures do sometimes throw up, and having a bump on the head and a broken collar bone can happen very easily, I have had many seizures where I have hit my head on the floor, wall or ground, even fell fave first into a door frame once. Hope your friend is ok..

It's telling that you say "her boyfriend is sometimes abusive". There is no need to begin or sustan CPR for someone who is having a seizure. A fracture of the collar bone is indicitive of restraint or improper cpr technique. The other injuries may be consistant with seizures. Her boyfriend is dangerous and really doesn't know what he's doing. He needs to stay away from Dr. things unless he knows what he's doing.

Yes it would be possible if she fell right to break her collar bone, bump her head ,and cut her lip. sorry i can not say the same for the scratches. Both my daughter and my Ex- husband have epilepsy . my ex with Violante grand Mal seizures has broken several bones and never remembered what happened .My daughter has less sever seizures and never knows she is having them or remember the big ones.

No recollection of the event is a very typical feature of seizures. The injuries you describe are not that typical. Most friends of people suffering seizures would try to help them into less dangerous circumstances. Each situation is different, though.
