In a lot of the old sitcoms, this was a problem that would come up.
I believe that it's a possibility that in the old days it may have been an issue, but if so, it was probably very very rare.
These days with the newer braces, barring a serious accident with two people being smashed together hard enough to probably kill them, it's doubtful that they would have any way of connecting to each other.
