Bush, Cheney, Limbaugh, Ginghrich, Buchannon, Wolfawitz, Perle, Gramm, Bennet, Starr, Delay are just some of the chicken shits who are gung ho for war just as long as they don't have to fight it. They were all asked to fight but somehow got deferments because of things like sore butt, bad knees, acne (its true see delay) or just plain A.W.O.L

"Conservative" is a broad term that includes a very large portion of the population, many of whom do support war in certain circumstances. Regardless of whether those listed purposely "avoided" war (while still supporting sending others to fight one), there are indeed plenty of conservatives that do favor war. Most of the troops are actually conservative, and most are quite defensive of the current conflict in Iraq; this is natural, as opposing the conflict would render the risks they take and their entire line of duty meaningless. Since many of these mostly conservative troops do fight in the Iraq conflict and do support their work, it may be said that conservatives would be - and are - "so gung ho for war" if - and while - they actually have to fight one. As for the apparent contradiction in the circumstances, i.e. the support of war by those who apparently avoided conflict themselves, one might do well to rethink the situation; is it the conservative ideology that supports others (but not the constituents of the ideology) participating in conflicts, or are the leaders chosen by the public the focus of the question? Individuals, rather than blanket labels such as "conservative", "liberal", etc. should be evaluated. To do anything else is to form a stereotype, which may be useful for certain heuristics, yet inhibits the most optimal decision-making process, which process is necessary for choosing the leaders of a nation. In short, a partially-inclusive yes.

... Answering loaded questions objectively is difficult, for the record.

I am mearly going to comment on what everyone else said. First off, despite what most people think, a slight majority of soldiers in Iraq identify as Democrats. Many of them entered into enrollment programs for college, others were caught up in the passion after 9/11 and joined without ever knowing they would be sent to a much different war.

As to what Meanone said about children, Yes. The lack of gun control costs hundreds of thousands of lives and puts police in constant danger. The united states has one of the highest numbers of illegally possessed guns in the world, the majority of which are suspected to be in the hands of young adults (14-30) and are used every day to commit gang related crime.

Lastly I would like to add that many people were tricked into the initial push to go into Iraq, the information presented was later found to be not only false, but intentionally created with the intent to deceive.

In the end, does it even matter who goes to war? I have a lot of respect for the people who refused during the Korean and Vietnam wars.

There are more conservatives in the military than anything else. Now, let's see what a liberal in war does...hmmmm..I know, let's look at Mr. Kerry. The hero. Goes out in a boat. Just hears an explosion. Turns the boat around. THen tries to make himself a hero by going back and getting someone out of the water that fell off the boat he was in charge of. Ok....now let's read between the true lines here. Boom.....oh crap....Kerry, the hero, spins the boat around to runaway! In doing this manuver so fast, he actually throws a man off balance and into the water. Then only AFTER the booming is over, does he becoma all might and brave to go save this fellas life. Yeah....right. FDR....wasn't he pres during WWII.....Kenedy and LBJ.....Dems'....during Vietnam. And wasn't it Nixon, who actually was ending it and bringin folks home. Wow. See how the liberals refuse to go and actually look at the facts and history and they just want to believe their own hype being spewed at them through the mainstream news. Golly. And hey.....here's the really scary thought. They might acutally vote.

I don't know what you're talking about. George Bush bravely served his country while serving in Alabama, helping republicans get elected. While John Kerry (well known liberal) was shirking his duty by serving two hitches in Viet Nam! Who says conservatives are afraid to fight? Alabama can be VERY tough, especially for a guy who was a cheerleader from Yale.

You are conviently forgetting about the many thousands of conservatives that have already served this country, are currently serving or have lost their lives for this country. I am sure that if you go down the role of public servants that many did not serve and that would include all parties! I know six young men and women that are currently in the service and they all are willing to die for this country. If they happen to do so, don't demean or belittle their sacrifice. Just support them.

I saw recently that there are only a hand full of Conservatives who have ever served our country in war, and that only one child of a conservative is doing the same. They just know how to start wars.

you are a retard or acting like one. conservatives are the ones who go to war in a volunteer military. a person does not have to be wealthy to believe in freedom and morales. We know right from wrong and that is why we see liberals as stupid and corrupt with no courage.
