People lump 'marriage' into one definition, their own definition, just like you might try to define love. It is not so simple.
Marriage has many parts and is regarded by many people in different ways.
There is the religious aspect of it. I believe most religions define marriage pretty well and however those religions define it should be upheld based on that religion's beliefs. The followers can choose to keep following or not based on if others of their religion feel the need to re-define marriage within their religion.
There is also the government aspect of it. The government issues a "marriage license" as if two people who love each other need a license to be together. Heterosexuals have enjoyed the benefits that come with this government handout and now that homosexuals are trying to get in on the action the heterosexuals are all up in arms about it. That would be like, if heterosexuals were getting $100 a month for years and then homosexuals asked for things to be more fair by also getting $100 a month the heterosexuals would say it's wrong because "being gay is a sin", instead of asking whether or not they should be getting that money in the first place.
Then there's the whole aspect of, if you love someone and you want to live your life together, why do you need some label?
Personally, my religion doesn't even recognize marriage outside of my religion as legitimate, but I don't really care either way...that's all in God's hands and I'll treat people with respect and be fine with calling someone "married" if it pleases them. And I'd rather write up a contractual agreement than get a government license when I get married. The only important part being our love for one another.

They should be allowed to marry.
It's not hurting anyone or perverting children and all that other **** people say. I think people really need to just hurry and shut up about it already. Make it legal and be done with it. Marriage should be about love and wanting to share your life with someone. I thought we were supposed to have EQUAL rights in America anyway! Key word people: EQUAL. Not have others treated worse because of who they are.
Also to all the people who say it's evil and disgusting and the bible says this and that: we are all created in God's image, God is good, so why would certain people be any worse because of who they love? The logic is stupid. We all need to be a little (okay, A LOT) nicer to each other. Stop hating each other over our differences. It's kind of sad when a 14 year old girl is more mature and compassionate than a bunch of adults isn't it? BTW, I'm not gay either, but I am bisexual.

It's the people with the perverted minds who have a problem with it because their religion makes them believe it's not okay to be anything but a sheep following it's sheppard and their sheppard says it's perverse. Who the hell cares what people do in the bedroom? That's essentially what it boils down to. Are gays not human? Then they deserve the rights all humans have. My best friend is gay and just got married and I was one of her attendants and it was the most beautiful wedding I've ever been to. They certainly don't take marriage for granted the way heteros do. It really meant something and they certainly deserve to be treated humanely. People are scared of what they don't know, similar to mixed marriages 30 years ago. They are ignorant because they are arrogant and arrogant because they are ignorant. I hate people who hide behind their religion. They are hiding behind a book written 2000 years ago. There are worse things you can do than marry someone you love.

The bible doesn't say homosexuality is wrong, but people interpret it that way. The bible is very open to interpretation.
You'll often hear the argument that all the bad things in the old testament (like Lot's daughters sleeping with their father, and all the slaughtering of people) were negated when Jesus came around. Unfortunately, for some reason that argument is not extended to the story of Sodom and Gomorrah.
Basically, it does say not to judge, but some Christians say they can ignore that because god wiped out Sodom and Gomorrah because of homosexuality. Well, God also said you shall not suffer a witch to live and that's what sparked all the witch trials that led to hundreds of thousands of people being burned and tortured. So why aren't Christians running around killing Wiccans? Because they'd go to jail that's why. (There is a reason for the separation of church and state--if the church ran the government we could go to jail for eating meat on Fridays).
Now this also means that religious people get a bad rap--they don't all condemn homosexuals. People that say religious people are homophobic are being bigots themselves, but it is true that religious leaders (and some of their followers), like say, the Pope, condemn homosexuals.
I think religious people should look at it like this: if they believe in God and that he judges everyone, then they should leave it up to him to decide once the homosexuals get there, right? If religious people have true faith, they won't judge here on Earth, and they will leave it up to God to decide homosexuals' fate.
Personally, I think that anything two consenting adults do out of love is okay with me. I can't really imagine God saying, well, you loved this person your whole life, was faithful and loyal, but you're going to hell because they were the wrong gender. It is simply ludicrous and contradicts the whole image of God that most people try to build up.
It is all about civil rights, and once the government realizes that and steps up to the plate to defend their own citizens' rights, then gay marriage will be legalized. I'm not gay either, but it really burns my buns that people are allowed to go around and be this bigoted. By the way, most of the arguments against gay marriage were used against interracial marriage way back when.

Gays have as much of a right to be miserable as the rest of us straight people!
Look how well straight people are doing with marriage. Just because these people have the same parts they can't marry. That just absurd! Look, religious people, you guys are terrible role models! If you wanted to get our respect stop beating your wives, divorcing them and killing them (act like Christ).
You guys had a good run...

I have known gay couples who have been in committed, loving relationships for 30+ years. They are happy and really could be a role model for many of the dysfunctional hetero marriages.

Im not gay but this is what I think.
Im not GOD so who are we to judge what these people do with their lives. GOD gave us freewill to live our lives. You can find it disgraceful, but all in all it says in the bible to LOVE ONE ANOTHER. not just the heteorsexuals. Look at the priest that molest children. People didnt get worked up about that the way they are with gay marriage. I think everyone has a right to be happy including gay people.

I am supportive of gay marriage. If you aren't supportive of it...don't get one! If you don't want your church or religous group to recognize gay marriages, they don't have to. By making it legally allowed it does not mean that you have to recognize it...we should give people who are gay the same legal rights as everyone else. Our country is not a theocracy, we should not live our lives based on the teachings of one religon.

I don't favor the gay marriage law. I think it is uncalled for. If you want to be married and gay move out of a country that is anti gay.
