Intelligence and motivation go hand in hand if you want to be a successful person. You may be incredibly intelligent but not have the motivation to do all you can all the time. You may just do enough to get by. Such as, the B student who can strive to do better but doesn't and so he remains a B student his entire life and becomes mediocre at his work.

Intelligence is one thing, but motivation makes you want to wake up earlier, stay working longer, go to sleep later...just because you're satisfying your need for a challenge.

Someone with intelligence alone may not get too far in life because they'll always just do their enough to earn a basic paycheck (in other words, mediocre). Someone with motivation alone, may not get too far in life because, while they have the will power, they don't have what it takes to understand some concepts. However, someone with both intelligence and motivation does their share of the work, understands all the concepts, helps others meet their goals, and then some!

Is there a relationship between intelligence and motivation? Honestly, I don't think one has much to do with the other. Intelligent people can lack motivation even when they are smart enough to realize that it's a desirable trait. There are people with low IQs that have drive, determination and perseverance. Are they motivated? Yes.

Motivation is determination, therefore you are determined to have the best relationship.
Intelligence is having the ability to talk with a learned knowledge of the topic. To sound educated. I see you are determined to have an intelligent conversation with someone. =o)
