Could be a lot of things. If it was the hard drive, you would have seen a message stating that the system disk was not found (or something similar).

You might want to check that the RAM and Video Card are seated properly. Also, can you tell if perhaps you're just not getting a signal to your monitor, but maybe the system is booting up just fine?

Are you seeing anything on your screen when you power on the PC? It should give you a beep error code if something was wrong...

Could be alot of things. Disconnect power and physical connection for everything except video, 1 memory chip, and processor. Follow the instructions on how to clear cmos, usually a jumper. Then try to boot it up.

If it still does not boot, test the memory, video and processor 1 by 1 in another computer. If something tests bad then you know what it is. If everything tests ok then it is most likely your motherboard.

Did you try clearing CMOS ? That is the first thing to try before anything else. Look for a jumper labelled "clear cmos" and set it to clear. Do not forget to replace the jumper to its previous setting.
Unplug the 20/24 pin power connector on the motherboard and reconnect it.
Remove the RAM modules and clean the contacts with a pencil eraser.
Remove all drives(Floppy, Hard drive) and add-on cards except display.
Switch on your system. If the system does not boot (or beep), the motherboard is most probably faulty.

Motherboard/CPU/Ram/Video Card/Power Supply.

you cannot boot without those ones. therefore you won't get a beep. the Hard drive is meaningless in this equation it should beep with or without it, you would just be prompted to load the system, "invalid system boot disk" something or other.

you said fan/cd drives so power supply seems good, it goes through the motherboard so that might be ok. probably the CPU or RAM. video card you would still get something, an error beep indication of some kind.

Your RAM is not working properly, try pulling it out of the RAM slot and then wipe it with a dry cloth and insert back, this will do and if not then ..............

whatever the RAMs capacity is, they work together as a single unit. It is not a 512 MB and a 1GB RAM, its a single 1.5 GB RAM. Thats how the computer 'sees' it, as a single unit. Unequal RAMs is not a consideration/as long as the speed is the same. And that is the key, to have them both operate at the same speed.

Either a BIOS or motherboard hardware issue. However, it might also be one of the cables from your power supply. Start with whatever is cheapest and replace that first.

bad processor is my guess. ground toyrself and reseat all of your cards...including memory. verify your processor is seated also....i have encountered a power suply problem that can also manifest these symptoms, but my bet is on a bad processor.
