It takes less effort and keeps the person from going through the pain that the other person went through. It is much easier to be a follower than to take the initiative and the chance that you just might make a mistake and someone else might just see you making that mistake.

It's not necessarily bad to follow the crowd so long as you have thought about what crowd you are following. Many important things are to be learned watching and mimicking others. It is equally important in my opinion to reserve some things for personal experience, especially where artistic pursuits are a concern, but even then it is good to have influences as a basis from which to build originality.

Some folks are leaders and most are followers as your question points out. Unfortunately for them they don't get far in the world. I was never a follower but lately I'll follow yahoo answers as a form of entertainment for something to do. It's about the only thing I do to follow others as you so call put it..........

Right from child hood we learn our lessons which are nothing but the experience and advice of others. What is wrong in learning from others experience if it is readily available.
If some one tells you that there is electric current inside the plug point and you should not insert any metalic object inside We should adhere to their advice instead of saying NO NO I wont go by your advice or your experience I want to learn for myself by inserting a metallic object well jolly well go ahead and do it. You should consider yourself if you survive the shock to learn more in the hard way.
What you say does not apply to all cases of learning process.

"following: ??
hmmm humans are are "herd-animal" (big word is "gregarious"), so it's only natural to "follow".
You are born to this world, and you learn from other peopel how to "get along". If you , hmmm, say , "make up your own language", chances are that you won't survive too well, and not reproduce, (passing along the genetic structure which would give you this tendency in the first place)
.... 98% of what you do is "following" ... quibbling about the remaining 2% is ... mmm ... quiblling.

I have no idea what ur talking about. I must be the person everyone follows. teens usually tend to learn 4 themselves... also, the people are probably being lazy.

Because they don't know that they have the ability to learn for themselves. No one has shown them how....
That and change in general is scary as all get out. No one wants to change. Stepping out of the ordinary into your own path would be a scary first few steps!

Because its the intelligent thing to do. If you see someone be stupid and get hurt will you do the same thing? Of course not! You learnt the lesson the easy way - by watching someone do it the hard way.
