Norton

Generally I'd say Macafee. Norton uses a lot of memory and tends to be very slow. In addition, if you don't want to be nagged to death by "renew your subscription" popups (even if you've already renewed), stay away for norton.

That aside, the best anti-virus software I've found is PC-Cillin. It has a firewall, spyware scanner, virus scanner, etc for $50 / year. If you only want virus pertection that will cost you only $29.95 a year. I've gotten viruses before using other software, but PC-Cillin has stopped everything so far. It is also used at places that I've worked.

DON'T USE AVAST! I used it and got a virus that totally scrambled my data. It took me about a week on intense data recovery using expensive tools to get about 95% of it back. Avast does not work!

Its free, works just as well, and there are not as many complaints about it. However if those are your only two choices go with Norton. McAfee is good, however they just dont seem as helpful whenever I have really needed virus help!

NEITHER!!! I would strongly recommend not putting ANY software by either company anywhere near your computer... this includes the install cd's... keep them in the next room. I personally use AVG Free. It's obviously free... unless you want to pay for it... and I haven't had a virus or crash in about 3 years. Check it out...
