Disney's FASTPASS allows guests to make 'reservations' for a popular ride to avoid waiting in long lines.
As you approach the attraction that uses the FASTPASS system, you will see three lines. One is the FASTPASS distribution line (where you can make your reservation), the second is the FASTPASS entrance (when you're returning to ride after making your FASTPASS reservation), and the third is the Standby entrance for guests not using FASTPASS.
The FASTPASS distribution line features a clock showing what times the tickets are being issued for. A clock with the current time is displayed outside the FASTPASS attraction entrance. The Standby line will have the current wait time posted.
Let's see how this all works. It's 11:00am and you want to go on Kali River Rapids but there's a 60 minutes wait posted outside the Standby line. You take a look at the FASTPASS distribution and see that passes are being issued with a return time of 1:00 - 2:00pm. You get your FASTPASS and instead of waiting on a one hour line, you have two free hours before coming back, bypassing the standby line and getting on Kali with little or no wait.
For the attractions, the assigned time will give you a 1 hour window to return, so you don't have to run back to be there the minute it goes into effect. With the theater attractions, you'll have a FASTPASS for a specific performance.
One thing to keep in mind, for the most part you can't get another FASTPASS until the current one is in effect. You'll see the time when you can get your next FASTPASS printed on the bottom of your pass. In other words, don't plan on going from one FASTPASS attraction to another gathering up slips. These machines are smart and won't issue another until your current pass allows it.
Every one in your party will be expected to turn in a FASTPASS at the attraction. And please don't return before your scheduled time because you will not be allowed to enter. There's nothing like weaving through a crowd of guests who are blocking the FASTPASS entrance because they're too early. Another no-no is trying to use a FASTPASS that wasn't issued that day. Don't bother, they can't accept it. Jumping off the standby line into the FASTPASS line isn't cool. There will be a Cast Member waiting for you to turn in your non-existent pass who will send you right back to where the Standby line begins.
FASTPASS is available to everyone and works with all admission media. There's no charge for using it.

I recently went to Disney world. This fast pass doesn't work like most theme park passes. Instead of paying extra, everyone can use thier ticket as a fast pass. You just insert it into the fast pass machine and it will tell you a time to return to get through the ride faster. My advice, everyone goes for the front of the park first. Decide which rides are the most important, because they only give out a limited amount of fast passes. When you decide, chose "the most important" for a pass, and then ride the other important rides as well. This will give you time to enjoy the entire park. Too many people concentrate on the feature rides and spend hours waiting in line. This causes them to lose precious time, and therefore cannot enjoy all the park offers. Oh, and unless you have small kids and are going in the winter, I wouldn't recomend the Animal Kingdom. It's rather boring for the older park goers, its often to crowded, and the Himilayan rollarcoaster is always breaking down.

You use your ticket that you use to get into the park. I think it may have to be a Park Hopper pass, but I am not sure. But anyway, you just go to a ride that has the Fast Pass option, which is usually the more popular rides and there is a station and you get a ticket telling yuo what time to return to the ride. You just hop right on the ride at that time. You can only have one at a time though and the computer thing can tell if you have one when you insert your ticket. They are very very useful

You do not have to purchase FASTPASS, some rides (not all) have FASTPASS, basically if the rides too long and FASTPASS is available (they're not unlimited) you can take one and come back during the time stated on the pass and get through the ride a whole lot quicker, it's kind of like jumping in front of the line.

A Disney Fastpass is available at the entrance to most popular attractions, like Soarin', Tower of Terror, Lights, Motors, Action! Extreme Stunt Show, etc. You grab a Fastpass which will have a time period for when you can return. You come back during that time, and the wait is supposed to be shorter than it would be to wait in the regular line. It doesn't cost anything if you have a "Key to the World." (Walt Disney Resort card.)

They cost nothing. Go to the exit side of the ride and find the fast-pass machine. Insert your disneyworld passport (entry ticket). It will print a stub with a return time on it. Return to the ride at the printed time and you will get on in only a few minutes. You will have to wait for one hour before being eligible to obtain another fast pass. One an hour I believe. DO NOT BUY A FAST PASS ON EBAY.

fast pass does not cost anything. You just go to the ride you like and present your ticket. You will be given a pass with the exact time when you should show up. When you show up at the time, you will go directly to the ride without having to line up.

ok fast pass only works for a couple of rides and it rocks, here's how it works. first you get the fast pass from a ride that gives fast passes don't worry its free. in a while you have to go to that ride to be able to skip everyone in line by going through the fast pass line. while your waiting just go on another ride nearby trust then you only have to wait a few minutes for your fast pass to be active
