It's past midnight, I have to get up at 5 tomorrow morning to give a presentation on three poems that I was supposed to memorize, and I don't have the poems with me to memorize them now. I looked everywhere online and I couldn't find the poems there. Help?

Problems: 1) finding poems 2) memorizing poems, 3) getting adequate sleep, 4) being presentable after little sleep.

Your top priority should be (3) above, second priority should be (4), next priority should be (1), and last priority should be (2).

I would need more context to know how to advise, is this for a public poetry reading, school, University, ect...?

I think this should help: Do one of two things, and I would show up regardless: either 1) smile a lot, be very polite, speak slowly and say I'm sorry, speak compassionately, and say next time, be emphatic, or 2) cry a lot, ask if anybody has any tissues, ask if anyone can help you because you are emotionally disdraught.

If you are interrogated just ask why are you trying to put pressure on me.

And remember you know what is best for you, nobody else does. And it is ok to laugh at others so long as you know that you are laughing at your own situation at the same time. these kinds of things happen.

You can either fake it. Search until you find them, drink loads of coffee and stay up and memorize them go in do the presentation then go home and go to bed, or see what happens when/if you are sick, no one likes the bathroom troubles, and you could easily have caught a stomach virus or even food poisoning.

Best of luck to you.

Does anyone else have the poems? They should be on line if they are published, try a search of the poem's title and also the author.

I guess you're dead meat. Did you try googling the author's name or some of the lines? Frankly, I think it's too much to expect someone to memorize 3 whole poems. I have a terrible memory and wouldn't be able to do it even if I tried. It's a bad assignment.

Post the poem titles and see if people can help you.

I have to agree with Ben, being sick seems like a very good idea. Also, you could tell the person making you give the presentation that you were unable to memerize them. So pretend to be sick or tell the truth.

I'd go with what Ben says, Be sick. Maybe sick enough someone else has to call you off.
