Yeah, but I would do it too if it got our team a free kick.

Its something FIFA wants players to stop.floping and pouting in the ground. The reason some players do this is so the Ref will see the foul was an aggresive foul, so the other player gets a yellow or a red card. The purpose of this is getting the other player kicked out. FIFA has called the ref to not let themselves be fooled by this. And if a player starts faking, he then will get the yellow or red for dishonesty.

You ever read the age of some of these guys? 40 and 50 year old dudes still kickin it with these young bucks? Sissy wimps? I think not. It's all about the ref. If the ref thinks you got pushed down real hard, that might score your team the free kick that will make or break the game, and inversely, the entire tournament.
It's like takign a spill in basketball. Shaq does it all the time. Probibly one of the reasons why they just won the Finals (boo! Dirk deserves it!)...

Do they what! It's a perfected art. I was so pleased to see that all that crap didn't happen in the game between England and Sweden. Those guys just got up or helped each other up and got on with the game. The referee's know they are for the most part trying for a freebie but they ignore it 90% of the time, which they shouldn't. Players shouldn't need to resort to those tactics. Sure is something I'd like to see stamped out of the game.

I agree. I played soccer since I was a little kid, and it was all about winning an Oscar. Sometimes the ref will make a marginal call if the player makes it seem worse than it is, but most of the time he knows that they're faking. I was always the guy hitting, so it never worked for me.
