How do i make my coverletter stand out?

use good quality paper, perhaps cream or gray, instead of pure white and make sure everything is spelled correctly and your grammar is correct.
even then, it's the resume that will draw the attention. the cover letter can only hurt if it's not perfect. it's hard for the cover letter to help much.

Yes, absolutely...I do hiring too, and we look for good coverletters. They show a genuine interest in the position, as opposed to someone just doing a bulk resume mailout. They also convey more personality and writing skills than a simple bullet-point resume. I recommend writing a cover letter for each and every job you apply to.
