we control what is put in our everyday diet and some how we just eat what makes us feel good at the time! but in the end it just makes us feel worse about ourselves! why can't we just control out hands... and keep them away from the fast food industry for atleast a little while! then we would have less weight and heart problems... people just need to have a more balanced diet! i'm not saying i'm perfect but i only eat out once a week.... although i know many obese people that eat out (and don't eat wisely) four to five times a week... that's what i call fat america....they just make america look bad!

Thanks for your thoughts. I agree. I think the reason why is we Americans do not have a strong sense of personal responsibility. We like to blame others for problems we created ourselves because we can't emotionally take the fact that sometimes we are weak and fallible. So instead, we sue everyone for anything that happens to us because it's never our fault.

Utterly ridiculous.

I agree with personal responsibility. However, there sometimes comes a fine line between personal responsibility and the responsibility that a company has towards citizens who buy their products. Now, before you respond let me explain. For example, suppose there's a product everyone buys and it turns out it causes your skin to become rashy. However, people are buying it for some reason. On one hand, people feel that it's the company's fault for causing their rashes because of the ingredients in the product. That makes sense to an extent because they are knowingly marketing an ingredient that is harmful. On the other hand, people should make more informed decisions. They should research their products. Yet-- why should *all* of the burden be on the consumers, when in a way, retailers are partially responsible as well? I'm not saying we should all blame fast food companies for making people fat. I believe that 90% of it is an individual's fault. However, I believe that from an ethical standpoint, the company owns that 10% remaining because they are knowingly selling a product that has potential harmful affects on their customers. I think that if more people rejected fast food companies, they would eventually try to appeal more to what consumers want-- even if it cost more. I agree that it's a person's fault for making themselves fat, but keep in mind that there are also expectations when you purchase a product as well. The obesity epidemic really has to do more with overeating, lack or portion control, and lack of healthy food choices rather than fast food.

I think we like to blame someone or something for all of our troubles instead of blaming self. This day and age no one can blame the fact that they did not know the risks of what they ate cause even mcdonalds puts the nutitional labels on even french fries.

I guess fat people feel better by saying it was the food company for advertising and making money off their greedy selves.

It's all about moderation, which very few folks do ( just look at the monster trucks some people drive- knowing the cost of gas). anyway i am overweight but when i go to these unhealthy type places i control what I have and not eat as if it were a meal- just a snack cause they have as many calories as a regular meal

it's all about watching what you eat

Because Americans don't want to accept the fact that they are weak and have no will power. They constantly find a reason to rationalize things they know are bad. Anything from not having the time to cook a balanced meal to actually saying they didn't know it was unhealthy to eat McD's 5 times a week. The fact of the matter is that our society revolves around splurging on anything we can. Whether it's buying clothes we don't need, getting gas guzzling SUV's, buying expensive toys we'll only use once or twice or eating as much as you can afford to buy. The sad part about eating out is that people are so used to eating ridiculous portions of food that when they actually go to a nice restaurant that gives you a reasonable amount of food we complain that the place is a rip-off and didnt give us enough.

My country was communist till 1990 and it seemed very weird for us that you sue for things like that. I think there was even a case when a doctor sued a shoe factory when he fell because of his untied shoes and broke his wristle, so he couldn’t work for a while. His argument was that no handbook was given with his pair of shoes... I’m not sure if it’s true. Anyway, what I want to say is that these days such sues doesn’t seem as stupis as it used to. People have become ignorant and if their attention is not drawned to the risks of fast food, they’ll be surprised to learn about it after the heart attack.
I agree that above all we are responsible for ourselves, but we need to be taught for that sense of responsibility. People in my country still care only about how cheap the food is and hardly check what are they made of or when they expire. Suing is not the answer, of course.

Here is my reason . I go to Mcdonalds and price for a small salad is about 6 dollars and price for a big mac ( on sale ) is just a dollar , which one i choose , of course a big mac , why ?? it's cheap and filling .
Everytime I tried to eat healthy , I almost went bankrupt because healthy foods are expensive and not filling unless u make them at home and that needs time and a microwave at school and work ( which is not always a case)

Because dumb people are always looking for a freebie and no one wants to blame themselves for being fat. Fast-food is the "easy way out" when eating and it's alwyas right there and it's always ready. I don't think that it is their fault at all that America is overweight, it's America's fault that we can't past a McDonald's with out eating our weight in hamburgers and french fries!

Just like the rest of the world, nobody wants to take responsibility for their own actions anymore, nobody is held responsible because we're always passing the buck, it's never OUR faults it's always somebody elses. That goes with the way we eat and everything else it seems. *sigh*

Cuz we're lazy and fat and our mommies and daddies have taught us that it is always someone else's fault and that the easiest way to make a buck to get fatter and lazier is to sue somebody. Pathetic, huh?

We're greedy and take pleasure in blaming others. It's silly! Eating healthy isn't that difficult!
