It can, it all depends on which ActiveX controllers you allow to be installed.

It is in good practice to only allow ActiveX controllers to be installed from sites you trust. They can be very useful. For instalce, http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com uses ActiveX to download and install updates to your computer.

However, less trustworthy sites could use ActiveX to install malware and spyware.

Active X comes in 2 categories:
Good and Bad. (just like everything else)

The general rule of thumb is:

'If you trust the webpage / website that you are visiting, there is no problem in running the active X control'

'If you don't trust the webpage / website that you are visiting, do not run the active x control'

'If you are not sure, then read the 'Terms and Conditions' before permitting any active x control to run on your computer'

Sometimes... it depends on what ActiveX controls you are using. If it is a trusted website (say Microsoft.com) probably not. But if it is an unknown website, those ActiveX controls could be dangerous.

I recommend disabling ActiveX completely. Or better, use Firefox - it does not load any ActiveX controls like IE does

yes and no

i provides many good uses on many websites (no active X no website)

but

if used for hacking i think it can totally take over your computer

only use and download active X if you trust the company or website like Microsoft

personally i don't even trust any company that uses Active X (bad employees after all)
