As an employee I think that doing your best for your employer and your customers goes a long way. I know that customers like to come back to a place where they were treated nicely by the employees.

Beyond that it is difficult to say. Maybe make suggestions, like sponsoring fund raisers and that sort of, whatever opportunities you see, pass them along.

It sounds like, being a new business, people just don't know you are there yet. You need to get people to start talking about your store (because most people I know like Quiznos and will go there if there is one nearby--- my old office had 2 within 2 blocks and they were both full all the time). And people love free things and will talk about what they got free for weeks

One of the most creative marketing methods I ever saw:

A school where I took a week-long class had an arrangement with 2 or 3 local restaurants where the school bought $5.00 coupons at a discount and handed them out to students for free (I'm sure they made it back in the tuition). Of course we went to the restaurants that offered the coupons every day! And we always spent more than $5.00 so we paid the difference out of our pockets so the restaurants still made money.

Another good idea--- make a platter of sandwiches and take them to one of the neighboring offices just before lunch time. Or take them some cookies after lunch hour. They'll be so surprised, and all the employees will talk about it. Lots of free advertizing. Whatever you take them, it should be the most "aromatic" foods--- no one can smell a turkey sandwich from the next room but hot Italian subs will get everyone's attention.

See if you can identify people who work near your store; keep an eye on employee ID badges and you may see a lot of people coming from the same office building. Then when there's a couple of customers in the store, randomly pick one from the office pool and give him/her a free lunch. If you do this once or twice a day, for a few weeks (or forever!), the word will spread and people will come, hoping that today is their lucky day.

The only way to get more business is to advertise or run promotions to draw people into the store. You could suggest some promotions or advertisements. Here are a couple of ideas...

Put a coupon in their church bulletin. I know my church has a weekly bulletin and a page of people who sponsor the church bulletin. Often the ads mention that the business owner is a member of the church. You say they are religious people so this may be an option.

In the mail, we get an envelope with about 40 coupons or ads for local businesses. It's kinda of a bulk direct mail. I saw the costs and it seemed reasonable to me...something like $220 to reach 5000 homes?

They could try sponsoring a little leage or soccer team. Getting the name out that a business is helping a community can build community support. The relatives of team players might drop by to support the business that supports their kids.

You should be able to go to Quiznos for support. As a francise owner, money is being paid to the company and they are supposed to provide support. I don't know the specifics of Quiznos, but I'd expect some help. They want you to succeed.

Good luck!

Unfortunately, a lot of what's going to work for a franchise has already been setup: original financing, location, branding, etc. Some of what's going to work for this kind of company is independant of what's done at the local store level.

That said, you're going to do better with marketing. People are going to eat what they eat for lunch and dinner, but who are they catering with? If you can get more catering business, you'll do well.

Some marketing ideas:

-- Direct networking (leads groups, chambers of commerce, friends and family, etc.)
-- Simple flyers at the counter
-- Participation with little league and church groups
-- Catering for family reunions

And the wild idea: A lunch cart in the local park between 11:00 and 1:00.

Outside of more revenue, you might look at operational effeciency: how productive are the people during shifts, are they keeping the place clean (ESPECIALLY the bathrooms), is product being wasted because of carelessness or poor planning?

Good luck with this. Remember, the purpose of life is to learn. There are lessons waiting for everyone involved.

Well, you could always try cool promotions or coupons. If people think they are getting a good deal, they are more likely to eat there more often. Even if the coupon is for like 50 cents...its not much, but people are lured in by stuff like that.
