I am diabetic, so I can handle the carbs/protein/fat of a fast food meal, but the refined sugar in regular soda just shoots my sugar levels skyhigh. Therefore, I have to drink diet.
Also, when dieting, I can work certain fast food into my diet plan, but soda adds hundreds of calories that you just don't need.

On another note, your question smacks of immaturity and a lack of compassion. Hopefully some of the answers you see here will show that there is more to life than your judgemental view of it.

It's not lame and they are not trying to fool anyone. Some people really can't have the extra sugar in their systems. When you're doing low carb, you can still eat fast food but can't have sugar. For example if you order the double cheeseburger, you ask for no ketchup and don't eat the bread or you order a side salad with no dressing or order the grilled chicken sandwich with no mayo or ketchup and don't eat the bread and have a diet coke. Get it.

fast food is just regualr food. It just have a whole ton of fat in it. Coke on the other hand is not just food. Coke is made of sugar. People when diabetes can;t intake so much sugar. If they do they will by high in sugar and then be low in sugar. So, coke solve the problem and instead of using suagr they use sugar subsitituted. Sugar substitiude is protein but it is very sweet. That is what diet coke use as there source of sugar.

I have had type one diabetes for twenty years now and I have been asked this question so many times it would not seem worth the trouble. In short, I drink it because it would actually add twice the calories in a value meal and I would have to take twice the dosage between my injections. The amount of sugar intake involved would be equivalent to twice that of regular food. Anyways, some of us do it for a reason.

They are trying to balance the bad with the good.
1 Big Mac plus 1 diet coke means you broke even, so then you can reward yourself with a choclate sundae.

I always wondered this too. I worked in a movie theatre about 20 years ago and people always ordered a diet drink with their extra large popcorn with extra butter and snocaps. I thought maybe they knew they were doing a no-no with the popcorn & candy so they felt less guilty with the diet drink.

Ignorance is as ignorance does....

SOME people eat fast food (in moderation) but are diabetic, so having regular soda is the same as having 2 additional meals. I happen to be a type 1 diabetic. I sometimes eat fast food but drinking regular soda ever is dangerous.

Thanks for displaying yet another prejudice.

they probraly eat that because they are addicted to those stuff. once u eat it, it gets hard to resist those stuff and you keep on eating it. just like crack or smoking

of course, when you eat those fatty stuff u can get realli fat and if ur fat, it is often hard to concentrate. believe me because fatty stuff can make u tired and when u are tired u can't concentrate. it blocks blood vessels and it constricts the heart and in order to do well, and to LIVE well, u got to have blood, i mean good healthy ones because if u are going to feed ur brain fatty oily blood, that is NOT good. and probraly that is why they get realli lame. because their brain isn't getting the rite nutrition.

diet coke is ok, just dun always drink coke, it has too much sugar and caffine.

Okay, I used to laugh about this too... until I started drinking diet soda. I don't drink the diet to negate the 5,000 calories the Whopper has, it's because I can't stand the sweetness of regular soda anymore.

Why throw in another 200-400 calories with soda just to wash down this crap?
