all my desktop icons have inherited a typical icon picture. how can i get rid of them and restore all my icons original pictures?

If you are using windows xp , Reset the icons, You can do this by changing the default theme and alos try to change the resolution

Have you tried restarting your computer .I have an old laptop that does what I think you are describing..When I restart it the right icons come up

reset the icons from desktop properties if u r using winXP

windows restore button located in your start menu then go back a few days and recover from there
