I have no idea but I am sure it was good for them to have a work force they didn't have to pay or answer to. Not unlike some current 3rd world dictatorships.
Slavery was then, is now and will forever be wrong. It is evil. But do bear in mind that the US Civil War was not fought just over the issue of slavery.

Great compared to that to the lives of most slaves is creature comforts of the time. Not so good if you are comparing slave owners to the modern day. They had abysmal health care and lower life expectancy. Entertainment wise, they had reading, and music and outdoor activity not much fun when compared to TVs, games and other conveniences, but more fun than toiling slaves.

Since we was not alive then, we can ONLY assume.
I imagine they had a lot of work to do. Just because they did not work the field did not mean they did not work. How do we know they was not out picking cotton or working on some other farm implement? You assume,TJ, that they where lazy. Actually, Most slaves did not have it bad.. some did, most did not. They protected their investments, not destroyed it.
