Uniforms have worked in the public schools in the UK and Australia for as long as I can remenber and its just the norm for the students. It is better on the parents pocket book, and the less privilaged kids don`t stand out as having less status that the kids who can flaunt the latest designer gear,it also makes you appreceiate your casual clothes more when you get home and especially on the weekends.I think it`s a good idea...also you know which school they`re from.

When it comes to uniforms, if they aren't mandatory in a school there will definatly be problems. Say one girl has to wear the uniforms, and antohers mom buys her babyphat and ecko red, there will probly be problems between the two girls. I think if uniforms will be used, they need to be mandatory. But they shouldn't be used in public schools because, there's already enough drama as is, why add more? Also what if some families can't afford uniforms? Another thing to think about is that with uniforms, traditionally girls have to wear skirts. What if I don't like my knees or legs??? Then I'll be embarrassed everyday and definatly not learn. In response to those kids who aren't cool because they can't afford brand names, my 3 bestfriends all wear clothes from wal-mart all the time! The most popular girl in the school doesn't even own one piece of babyphat. Actually, I'm the only girl who wears brand-names everyday, and nobody treats me different, and I'm definatly not mean to anyone. And even though we all dress different, I wear brand-names all the time, I'm the number one student. The kid who's number two buys there clothes from wal-mart. So all-in-all uniforms dont really help. Partly because in the real world, you do have to compete.

I have mixed feelings about it. Where style and fashion have become dangerous and kids are getting gunned down for their jackets and shoes, I think it's a great idea. I also think it's a good idea so that everyone is on the same level where clothes are concerned. No one in the school has better clothes, more stylish clothes or costlier clothes.
The thing that concerns me is that not all families can affort the uniforms. Maybe they can scrape up enough money to buy one uniform, but that won't last 5 days of wear. The uniforms are not cheap, so I know that it might be difficult for some families to buy them for all their children.

Uniforms do have their good points. For starters you don't have to worry about what you will have to wear tomorrow. You can change after school into something you really like and don't wear it out real quick.

On the other hand it makes us all equal and not everyone is happy about having their individuality curbed.

Parents might go for it if it means saving on clothes and making sure their kids dress properly for school.

Dress codes would become obsolete, although some people always try to walk the fine line and defy this in many small ways.

i think it would be terrible. one of the things that set public school from private school and the uniform. not only that but by having uniforms its taking away from our idenities. we represent ourselves by the way we dress and who we are. the school has already has control over what we study, when we study and many oththers. the only bit of freedom that we have left is our clothing and they can't take that away from us. there is always a pro which is that there would be equality but you would have to think about it. i mean schools are a taste of what really life is right? but in real life there really isn't any equality. there is also this argument that maybe it would make the kids who can't afford expensive stuff feel better but have they thought about the cost of the uniforms? it would still cost money. beside i don't think the pros outweigh the cons

It doesn't matter, because I come there to learn, express myself in intelligent ways. I want to be commended for what I know, not what I wear. So yay for uniforms. It's more affordable compared to buying different outfits every other month. I'd still wear uniforms even if it wasn't mandatory.

I think school uniforms especially up to Year 10 at least is a good idea. By providing uniforms every one is equalised, therefore kids aren't discriminated against because of what they wear i.e. goths, metallers, cheerleaders, skaters, or people who are from lower socio-economic backgrounds who can't afford the 'latest' fashions.
However I do think that girls should be allowed to wear trousers (this wasn't allowed in my high school) especially in winter.

Uniforms make getting ready in the morning a breeze...no trying to figure out which outfit to wear. There's plenty of room for individuality even with a uniform: personality, hair, accesories, etc.

Unacceptable. Variances in clothing are in most cases the essence of individuality. Wearing uniforms is just a scheme for the streamlining of society. DON'T GIVE IN!!!

I am not a conspirator ^.^ but seriously, it's what makes us unique in everyday life, along with personality.
