well first you want to stand on the left side of the plate if you're a righty and the right side if you're a lefty. You want the bat in between your head and the catcher, which is the guy behind you, the big part of the bat is up high, the small part is hopefully the side your hands are on. You want to spread your legs approximately 2-2 1/2 feet, bend your knees, and look at the pitcher. When the ball is getting close, take a small step foward with your front let (the one closer to the pitcher, the guy throwing the ball) in a motion turn your hips and bat and keep you're eye on the ball until you make contact, then run to first, the base to the right of the catcher, the guy behind you.

Keep you eye on the ball not bat hitting ball. Step into your swing...look at the slo-mo replays of a batter hitting a ball on tv and your see it
A good place to practice is a batting cage.

Go to a used book store (or maybe Amazon.com) and latch onto a copy of "The Art of Hitting," by Ted Williams. It works. The most important thing I can summarize from it is to make sure your stance, grip and swing are comfortable, no matter what style you choose. The book is absolutely loaded with information, and Williams gave examples of what other successful hitters did, not just his own style.

Keep your eye on the ball. Swing at every one that you think you can hit. Foul balls will keep you in the game. Make sure if its to low or high dont hit it wait for the perfect pitch. I learned this from a very good coach!!!!
