If you want to get on the "cutting edge" start with a dual-core processor in your case an AMD brand. An AMD Athlon 4100+ X2, ASUS AGP style mobo, at least 2GB of RAM, a 256MB or more AGP video card, 2-74.5GB Western Digital "Raptor" 10,000rpm SATA hard drives hooked in a RAID, 2-"Plextor" DVD+-RW drives, XG Vortec 600 watt+ power source, Zalman CPU fan, a Cooler Master "Centurion 5" case with fans installed and "tool-less" construction, and an extra 80mm fan. Get Windows XP Pro 64-bit O.S.. Or, you could wait for "Vista". I wouldn't get that, there will be many "bugs" to be worked out of that new O.S.. I'm not sure about the conversion to USD on this, But I would estimate the cost of the system to be roughly $2200.00 USD.

im gonna probably cover everyones comments here. First of all that computer you have listed there is awesome. Why would you want anything else? If you want to give yourself more speed, upgrade the processer and video card. The ram and hard drive are still very high class, so just upgrade those 2 things and dont worry about it.

No matter when you buy your computer, there's always a better one on the verge of coming out. The system you have listed will serve you well for probably 1, maybe 2 years to come before you will want to consider upgrading or replacing.
I would say buy it and have fun!

Gaming technology is evolving lightning fast, so buy it anytime and there's gonna be something better in a couple of months. It's really up to you how long you want to wait.
I think the best bet is to upgrade when a new game comes out that u REALLY want to play but that ur computer can't support.

As you are building it yourself, this may not apply as much.
But given that Windows Vista is going to be out after the end of this year, you may want to wait. Vista will have higher requirements ... esp if you want to run it with all the graphical features turned on. If you were going for a completely new computer from a retailer, I would wait to get one with Vista preinstalled.

i think you should keep your existing setup and either upgrade your motherboard to a nvidia sli board or ati crossfire board and then invest in two ati x800gto crossfire cards or in the case of the nvidia board go for two g\force 7800gt
your processor is plenty good enough, power wise, and 2.5gb of ram is more than enough, maybe with any money you have left you could invest in a new hard drive ,a seagate barracuda 120gb drive can be bought for around £60 from http://www.dabs.com/productlist.aspx?&NavigationKey=11154&NavigationKey=4294960494&NavigationKey=50410&CategorySelectedId=11154&PageMode=1,and this would give you ample storage space
good luck

you sound like you know what you are doing...but i always buy 1.5 years behind the newest technology to get a better bang for my buck.
also...i would recommend a dual core athlon processor. much better performance in my view. also 4 gigs of memory and an nvidea card with more memory....but ati still rules with graphics...i am just cheap.
