i think someone should report her and take her child away. she is obviously too irresponsible to be allowed to have children.

Any drug can harm an unborn baby, unless it has been approved by the FDA for use with pregnancy. Even though she had the tests done, there is still a possibility that something could be wrong with the baby. It's also possible that nothing will be wrong at all.
It sounds like she isn't being responsible enough to care for a child. If she has been doing this her whole pregnancy, with all the info out there now about what drug abuse can do to your baby, then maybe she needs to think about the baby for once. Has she thought about adoption?
She needs to focus on this baby and stop being so selfish. If there is nothing wrong with the baby, then count herself lucky.
I have seen many babies born to mothers who are drug addicts and it isn't a thing I wish to see at all. Most have problems with withdrawl after birth, some will have learning difficulties that you don't know about until after the child is older and having problems in school. Some will develop ADD or ADHD due to the chemicals not allowing the brain to develop right.
If she doesn't have problems with delivery, then she is lucky. If she is that far along, and she stopped then that is a good thing. At least the baby will have some time to put on some weight. That is one problem with drug abuse in mothers. The body will take what it needs from the fetus if it isn't getting everything it needs, and that can leave a baby with low birth weight, premature birth, problems with breathing, eye sight, brain development, hearing. There are many studies that have shown that weed can cause many defects that aren't known until later in the childs life.
No one will be able to tell that she used weed at first, or during delivery. They may ask about drug use during pregnancy so they are aware and can plan for any problems that may occur.
I would tell her to get help and to not use any more.. no matter what!! This baby deserves a fighting chance, and the ability to live a good life.

Your friend is very irresponsible & should have stopped her habit the moment she found out she was pregnant. It doesn't matter that birth defects haven't yet be detected - there are complications that could occur during labor/birth & after. Not only is it possible for the infant to cry excessively due to drug withdrawal but the child could end up with asthma or lung issues the rest of its life. The hospital may discover her drug use regardless of her quitting due to any unforseen complications in childbirth. She will be in major trouble & possibly have her newborn taken away from her. What a shame that pot was more important than her own flesh & blood.

I had a friend who smoked weed throughout her pregnancy to relax her when she had uterine pain. Sad to say, her 'boyfriend' gave her weed laced with crack... and she became addicted. As in out on the street begging men to give her $5 for various services at 9 months pregnant. Disgusting. To make matters worse so she couldn't get help, she knew to avoid her baby going through withdrawal, she stopped prior to giving birth. Even still, her baby was born with locked bowels and almost died. I've never really forgiven this friend for messing with her child's life this way. I don't know where she is or how her daughter is doing.

i had a friend who had done the same thing, and although i told her to quit at least while she was carring she didnt. and its amazing because she carried the full nine months, baby was born 8lbs or so and out of all of my friends who hadnt smoked while they were pregnant her son is by far the most social and inteligent out of them all. the only side affect maybe is that he cries and wines way more than most children that age. but hey hes almost two so what do you expect. whatever god wants that baby to be is wat the baby is going to be. there are plenty of women out ther that did everything right the entire pregnancy and had stillbirths, premies, birth defects, and so on, so all though smokin that herbal isnt the best the baby will come out just how he/ she is supposed to. why dont you look on some websites i actually think that smokin weed is less harmfull than smokin cigs. dont get me wrong im not sayin its right to do it im just stating the facts.

Hopefully she quit in time, but probably not since she was smoking during the baby's development. Don't be surprised if there are birth defects. And what kind of friend are you to let her do it? You should have reported her to the local Family Services office for endangering the welfare of a child. It's one thing if she kills herself, but another thing to do that to an innocent little baby.

"Unlike cigarette smoking, not all the evidence of the effects of marijuana use is in yet. Consequently, those who choose to smoke marijuana today are taking a chance, testing a substance whose dangers may not be fully documented for some time to come. And since marijuana crosses the placenta, mothers who smoke it during pregnancy are taking chances with their unborn children as well.
It is usually recommended that couples trying to conceive abstain from marijuana use, since it can interfere with conception. But if you are already pregnant, you needn't worry about your past smoking - there is no presnet evidence that it will harm your fetus.
Continuing to smoke marijuana now that you've found out you're pregnant however, might well be a story with a less happy ending. Some, though not all, studies show that women who use marijuana even as infrequently as once a month throughout pregnancy are more likely to gain inadequate weight, to suffer from hyperemesis (severe and chronic vomiting), which can interfere seriously with prenatal nutrition if not treated, to have dangerous rapid labour, prolonged or arrested labour, os a caesarean section; to show meconium in the amniotic fluid ( a sign of possible fetal distress), and/or to have a baby that needs resuscitation after delivery. Maternal marijuana use may also damage genes, possibly resulting in birth defects or cancer in offspring, and lead to attention problems and other fetal alcohol syndrome-like characteristics, as well as tremors, vision abdnormalities, and withdrawal-like crying during the newborn period. Marijuana has also been shown to adversely affect placental function and the fetal endocrine system, potentially interfering with the successful completion of pregnancy.
So treat marijuana as you would any other drug during pregnancy, don't take it unless medically required and prescribed. But if you have already smoked early in your pregnancy, don't worry. Since most of the negative affects of marijuana appears to occur as pregnancy progresses, it is very unlikely any harm was done. If you're tempted to continue using it, try some of the suggestions for quitting tobacco - kicking one addiction is similar to kicing another. If you can't seem to break your marijuana habit, speak to your practitioner or seek other professional help as soon as possible"

You cannot take the child away from its mother before its born unless she does something crazy, like trying to commit suicide.
But to be honest with you, smoking weed is no more harmful than smoking, if not less harmful than cigarettes. It starves the unborn of oxygen, therefore can cause low birth weight and other complications. And if laced with other drugs, can do way more harmful things to your child.
When you are pregnant I would recommend not smoking anything or putting any type of substance in your body unless you talk it over with your doctor before hand.
When I was first pregnant with my oldest I was dumb enough to smoke weed. Suprisingly he came out great. He's smart and perfect. Haven't smoked in 4 yrs and I find that I can think more clearly.

my friends is like that too. but she quit which is a great idea. well there is a great chance that her baby might come out the way she is too. and just convience her to stop smoking weed. and the good thing is that she gets regulalry check-ups to make sure the baby is in great condition. tell her just because the docotors say it is healthy...she doesnt have to keep on smoking..somtimes doctors can be wrong...

Yes they will know that she smoked weed because it gets into the bloodstream and when one is pregnant, blood is taken for different tests. As for complications, the baby may or may not have any at all. It all depends on God and what He has in store. I'm not saying weed is ok.

I honestly believe that smoking pot during pregnancy makes children insanely bright. (as long as it is all natural and isnt laced with anything harmeful and wasnt treated with toxic pesticides) I didnt smoke my entire pregnancy, but instead of turning out slow like doctors said he would, my son is advanced for his age. he is 3 with the mental age of a 5 yr old. (Sometimes i wonder where he gets it from!)
