Okay, please nobody answer with 'go see a mechanic, dummy' I know this and i am going tomorrow morning, but just wanted to hear what some people would say. First, I constantly put coolant in the reserve, and minutes later my light comes on. My car never overheats, and the temperature gauge usually stays right at normal. It started out as me putting fluid in and a week later the light comes on, now it comes on instantaniously, and stays on. Yesterday for the first time, the temperature gauge went almost all the way up, then slowly came back down. I will find out tomorrow exactly what is wrong, but i have a feeling i am goin to be taken advantage of because i am a girl and kind of an idiot, and i just wanted some peoples opinions, maybe this happened to you before.

Okay, just trying to help you out.....

Does the fluid leak out anywhere or does the fluid level keep dropping???

This could be a # of things, some I'd look at first....
Pressure Radiator Cap.... (one set to the right pressure rating for your car.)
Thermostat.... (could be going out or stuck half open)
Radiator Fan.... Could not be turning on?? do you ever hear the fan running after engine meets normal operating temp.?

If you are leaking fluid, it could be that....
Your Water Pump is going out & slowly leaking fluid from the weep hole.
doubt its your actual radiator, but it is possible

Hope this helps,
Charlie

Look under the car. Maybe it's going out on the ground. If not, your car is burning more water than most I've seen. Probably a cracked head. You may get lucky and just have a leak or a bad water pump. I hope so. Turn the cap half way counter clockwise to keep the pressure off the cooling system until you get it to the shop......that's the radiator cap, not the coolant fill cap.

Could be your thermostat but if the light comes on and the radiator is full it may be electrical problems If you fill it up and it s empty soon there after you may have a leak. Usually the thermostat gos out that's the problem i bet.

If it is leaking out then you probably need a new radiator. You could probably get a second hand one at a junkyard. If you feel intimidated at the garage get a guy to go with you.
