Regular computer is better in most cases. As stated by some other people, you can upgrade the hardware more easily and you can get more bang for your buck. It also should do better than a laptop at staying on all day long if need be.

Reasons why you'd want a laptop instead:
1. You commute and have a long train ride.
2. You travel and have long plane trips.
3. You need to work off site, such as at clients' offices, parents' house, friends' houses.
4. You live in a very very small room/apartment and can't afford the desk real estate to have a real monitor. (Alternately, you don't have enough power strip real estate to power your computer, monitor, and speakers seperately.)
5. Your work/school requires you to use a computer on site- you can't do your work at home- but there isn't one you can use. (I, for example, recently purchased a new laptop because at my work five management personnel all check their email and make three seperate work schedules on one shared computer- it wasn't working.)

laptop computers can be a rather tricky buy at times, I would suggest that you look out for the cheapest and yet latest desktop on the market,

the best way to do this is on what they call warehouse sale markets some of them are online.

these warehouse owners have a service where they sell laptop computers to normal customers like you and me, however with very reduced prices due to the fact that they do not have as much costs as normal shops do, such as rent and a employees etc. as you know most online shops have rather competitive prices sometimes cutting the laptop price to a half.

one such website for laptop computers is :

Depends on what you are using the system for. Also if you plan on upgrading the system or not.

For most daily usage (internet word processing) they will both be quite adiquite. Where as for games, or and programs that will put a high strain on the system for extended periods of time (rendering, video editing, etc) a desktop is far better. The portability of a laptop is great, even if you keep it pluged in.

depends how often you travel

a regular pc is better , cheaper more power for your $

but if you are on the road often or like to wander around the house using it, then a laptop

I have owned both, four pc's and 2 laptops. I definitely favor the laptops, probably because of its portability; you can take it to local coffee shops or whatever and hook up to the internet, take it with on trips, etc.

I had this choice when I first bought a computer...I am now totally convinced that buying a Home PC is the way to go...especially if it's your first computer...I can wait to get home to use my computer...I don't need to drag it around with me...
