While there have been more lopsided scores, I would submit a game in 1965 when the lowly New York Mets defeated the Chicago Cubs by a score of 19-1. The Cubs were so demoralized that they stopped the College of Coaches nonsense, hired Leo Durocher to be their manager and finished last behind the Mets in 1966. (Well, maybe the game didn't have that effect, but otherwise it's all true.)

[Actually, I got the date wrong. It was May 26, 1964 at Wrigley Field. The Mets got 23 hits that day.]

The yankees have offically taken the worst beating ever. They were up 3 games to none in the ALCS in 2004 and ended up losing four straight, officially the biggest choke in baseball history, and best beating by any team.

I remember reading about a game around 1914 that involved the Detroit Tigers. The Tigers went on strike and the team grabbed a bunch of semi-pro players to play the game. I believe they lost something like 26-2. The next day the regular players returned.

EDIT: It was 1912. The Tigers went on strike to protest the suspension of Ty Cobb.

I think that in the 1880's some team score 36 runs in a game, the record. That's a heck of a beating.

I know the Boston Red Sox hold the modern day record for runs scored by one team. 29-4 over the St. Louis Browns in 1950.
