TRUST ME I HAVE A SALAMANDER AND ITS STILL ALIVE AND I'VE HAD IT FOR 1 YEAR ALREADY !!!!!!!!!

First do not put it in an aquarium it will die
it is not poisonous

YOU WILL NEED:
- a 35 gallon tank(yes i know its a little big but they need that much space )
- something 4 it 2 bathe in
- drinking space(dont use a cup for this or the bathing thing)
- logs and sticks firmly put in the tank because it is healthy for them to climb
- put big rocks in there and little ones to support the big ones so they don't fall on your salamander
- reptile bark
- fake leaves so that it feels like its in its natural habitat

FEED IT:
- crickets - you can find these at a pet store
- meal worms - you can find these at a pet store
- some small bugs from outside(they won't eat ladybugs but put them in there so they can eat the bacteria

DON'T FORGET TO:
- feed it about 4 bugs a day(just stick them in the tank)
- clean its tank every 2-3 months
- give it love and care every day
- give it WATER ONLY baths(absolutely NO SOAPY THINGS in the water at all , examples: soap, dininfectine, lysol, etc.)
- spray the tank with water daily
- finally the most important thing of all HAVE FUN WITH IT !!!!!!!!

Good luck and best wishes to you and your new salamander ,
Briana

If it is a dark colored (olive to almost black) with yellowissh spots, it is probably a Tiger Salamander- a common species.

These guys make good pets if you want to go through the work of setting up a semi-moist woodland environment. They eat bugs and worms mostly.

I'd keep it in a plastic tub or box with some garden soil and a layer of dampened leaf litter. A largish sunken bowl for water and swimming.

I'd also only keep it a few days before I released it unless you want to start dealing with crickets and similar food items.

is it anything like the pictures in the link on the below? once you go there on top you will maybe see the words tiger salamander an you can just delete tiger salamander and just put salamander. that is only if that salamander is incorrect.any ways it looks like you found a tiger salamander.they are pets.no need to worry.

It is illegal to keep wild animals without a license and more than likely you will kill it if you try. More than likely if you touched it, you placed your oils on its skin which it uses to breathe and now the thing can't breathe as well from your well-intentioned curiousity. Just release the poor thing before you do any more harm to it.

Keeping any wild animal as a pet is not always the best thing to do. But if you must, here is some advice: http://exoticpets.about.com/cs/amphibians/a/salamandertanks.htm

Kassandra, great minds think alike! Wild things have wild things and some are deadly to humans!
