If it didn't exist, then how can we look at it in the first place?

It depend on how old you are. Look into child development. Look under the concept of object permanence. At one point in your life everything is there for you and the world centers around you, ten you grow out of it, that is object permanence, the realization that even though you can't see something it is still there. And for the tree in the forest guys. The question is an analogy for death and war. The actual question was if a person dies and there is no body for you to bury did he/she ever really exist? The word fell is also the word used wen you chop a tree down. I fell the tree. It is a civil war analogy still used today but not for the purpose it once had. Getting back to the specifics of your question. You have manner senses. Sight is but one. So you don't see something and you think it must be missing. Logical. It used to be there. It is not there now. It is gone. Or is it invisible? Perhaps your eyes are playing tricks on you. And yet you know exactly what that object looked like in that spot. You can imagine exactly how tings should be. An idea is there. Is the idea real or something else. What is it? I would say that it is the same idea whether it is tangible or not. It is the same form and the same substance as it always was, maybe. Try going back to the room or finding the object. Maybe it is missing or invisible. Things change, and yet; the room was where the room was. You're just not thinking about the bigger picture of the room. Adjust your perspective. Aristotle's laws of contradiction: Something either is or it is something else. At any rate it is.

For anything to "cease", something would have to stop. To stop something, would mean an end to something that had to be started. There is a start and a finish, to existence...logically. (For existence is not infinite) So no, although your senses do not perceive the room to exist, it still exists.
(Also remember your senses can deceive you as well!)
Great question Sir.!

No. And if a tree fell in the forest where no-one could hear it, there would still be a sound. There would be no perception of the sound, but perception is not a pre-requisite for existence.

In your mind it ceases to exist because it no longer plays a role in your surroundings. If you can’t see it, touch it, or hear it. To your mind it is no longer there. But truly it is.

All things exist in the same space, you only perceive yourself
leaving the room, you don't, your reality simply alters around you.
