The name "jesus" is pronounced "Hay-zooce" in spanish.
Many Mexicans are Catholic and so many common names in Mexican culture come from the Catholic tradition - including the names of Jesus (for boys), and the most popular saints and holy figures. Some names like Dolores or Concepcion (both girl's names) are named after different aspects of a holy figure. In addition, the names might also have a secondary meaning, such as being the same name as a favorite older relative. A boy named Jesus might not actually be named for Jesus of Nazareth, but after his grandfather, for instance.
Let's turn the question around - How come Jesus is not a popular name for English speakers, when many Americans are Christian of some sort?

Parents can name their children anything they want, its not intended to please others. Poor kids get stuck with stupid names because their parents are narrow minded, ie Apple??
